Wendy, 23-year-old from mid north country of South Australia, leaves home after sexual assault and abuse from her father and travels to Adelaide to start a new life. She connects with her aunt Clare, her father’s estranged younger sister, who she has always liked and moves in with her. She decides to study at university and meets Angela, a 33-year-old of mixed race, originally from the Northern Territory and they become friends, then lovers, then partners. The story is mainly set in Adelaide and follows their experiences and the people they connect with and Angela describes her father’s concept of the Three R’s, Rhyme Rhythm Reason, that the believes make for a good relationship between two or more people. Other characters are brought into the story and other locations, such as the Fleurieu Peninsula, the port of Robe and the Flinders Ranges in SA, as well as Katherine, Darwin and Kakadu in the NT. The first two books, Rhyme Rhythm Reason and Seasons in the Sun follow the five years from Wendy’s arrival in Adelaide to their first jobs after leaving university to the beginning of their new adventure when they accept jobs in Darwin. In the story are, violent death, suicide, a gang attack, alternative lifestyles and gender identification. Love, friendship, food and good wine.
