Seasons of Love #4
Summer to Remember
Fitting together might be more important than fitting in.
Danielle Washington never felt like she belonged. After she loses her bakery job, she is left with no family, no job, no car, and no money to pay rent. When she gets a call that an aunt she doesn't remember breaks a hip, Danielle jumps at the chance to come help. Maybe the small town holds chance to start over. Or at least discover the secrets that kept her mother from ever returning home.
Mark Dawson doesn't fit a mold, either. His family has lived in small-town Minden his entire life, but his trendy style and that's-definitely-not-a-sport interests didn't always fit in. As a middle-school teacher, Mark tries to teach students it's okay to embrace your quirks; a lesson he also finds himself reiterating to the cute new baker in town. But when he is accused of the unthinkable and his career and community threaten to crumble; the shame is too much to share.
Danielle finds herself caught up in the charm of small-town life and the handsome school teacher who shares her love of video games and superheroes. But can she overcome the skeletons of the past to connect with the only family she has left? Will Mark's own secrets push them apart before they ever have a chance? The healing power of the truth and God's provision are front and center in this story of forgiveness, acceptance, community, and love.

One phone call changes everything for Danielle Washington. Just when she has reached the end of her hope, she learns that her estranged aunt in Indiana is in need of care—and also someone to run her bakery. As a skilled baker who just lost her job due to downsizing, Dani packs up her few belongings and flies to Indiana the very next day.
Nerdy teacher Mark Dawson is happy to make it to summer break. He loves life in his small town and thinks things can only get better when he meets Dani, the new girl in town who shares many of his same interests. His future becomes murky when he is accused of inappropriate physical contact with some of his female students.
This novel packs a big punch. It tackles issues like Mark's false accusation, Dani's mixed race heritage, and family problems—but it's also sweet, funny, and a nerd's delight. I enjoyed the small town setting and the spiritual themes as well.
Warning: Do not read this book when you're hungry! All the bakery talk will have you reaching for your cookie jar.

Best!
After reading all the Mainstreet Minden books, I can honestly say I liked this one the best. Okay, maybe I like it so much because it’s the one I just finished? Lol. I love how the two awkward nerds found each other and connected so fast! I love how the characters is all of TGE’s books appear in each other’s stories. Makes me excited to keep reading them all!

oh my, how easily it can happen
Wow! Ms. Ericson has crafted a masterpiece of love, of insecurities, of fear, of intimidation. Of Truth.
We all knew Mark and Danielle were made for each other. The journey to their HEA was one filled with highs and some very lows.
In the end, Truth prevails. Love wins. God is in control.

What a wonderfully written narrative! I loved the characters and the chemistry between them. The plot was plausible and interesting. The only drawback was the hasty editing. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading this book.

This book addressed some hard topics, without really me expecting it to. The romance is moving along fast, when boom, there is an accusation against the guy she is getting to know. Racism is also a constant present theme.
I thought the author did a good job of handling the issues, but since it is a sensitive topic for me, I figured I needed to mention it in the review that it does talk about a false sexual abuse claim. It was handled well, which is important, and I will not spoil the story.

This was a fun read with deep context. Each character has lots of personality. I loved the pop culture references. I think the was a Gilmore Girls one which I appreciated. The author did a very good job dealing with racial prejudices and sexual harassment claims.
