This is a much touted book, but I find it tiresome in so many places. Joyce goes on and on, making points already made. It's full of Catholic doctrine, the kind that warns young people of the evil of mankind, Hell and how terrible it is, scriptures proving that everybody is a sinner, etc.

I also feel that a young boy like Dadelus would not think or talk as he does in this book, with hundreds of references to the classics, and quote after quote in Latin.

I need my friend, Kathleen McCormick, literature teacher from SUNY, an expert in Joyce, to explain the appeal of this book.
