I love having nonfiction books that my students can access on their own. Blast off readers are great for teaching features of nonfiction too.

Most children are macaroni & cheese fans. This nonfiction book has kid appeal in the title and cover photo. It also ticks all the boxes for text features in the nonfiction reading curriculum--table of contents, captions, bold print, map, timeline, chart, glossary, index. The information included is not especially interesting.
