What if you could have the FOCUS of Tiger Woods, the CONFIDENCE of Roger Federer or the ENERGY of Serena WIlliams? Now you can. With Game. Set. Life. you will learn the secrets of all the successful people in history. Ed Tseng is a tennis pro (Pro of the Year USTA/NJD 2005), peak performance expert and TEDx speaker who has worked with thousands of people from inmates at juvenile detention centers to professional athletes. This exciting new book will inspire you to go from where you are to where you want to be.
Good summary of motivation thinking – Edward had a lot of thoughtful, concise content but it is far easier said than done. (Note: I listened to the audio version.)
There was a matter-of-fact in the tone in the narration from the author that I wasn't too fond of. It was clear that he had a clear understand of the principles. I think, however, acknowledging that everyone comes from different starting points would have been equally helpful as admitting that not everyone will become a world-class professional. I do totally agree with him that one can control his/her attitude, dedication, and energy put into tennis/life.
Also, I think there's a mixed message where winning isn't the solution, but success is emphasized over and over. Success should be clarified and not with a narrow definition, which makes it seem too elusive and less achievable. Success is the journey in the same way winning is. Moreover, it yet again can indirectly discount how much work others put in but have more obstacles. In other words, there are a lot of factors in success (i.e. meeting the right people, having resources usually in the form of wealthy, supportive and/or risk tolerant parents, having the time to afford to invest into the sport vs. sustaining oneself, etc.).
All in all, it's a worthwhile read, but should be taken with a grain of salt. My biggest takeaway was making sure I am having fun as a way to cultivate passion and being intentional with my growth & goals.
Ed shares the lessons he has learned both on the court and off, and presents them in a way that is accessible to everyone.
Simple. Elegant. Effective. Potent lessons are distilled into easy to remember formulas that can change your life. Stories drive the points home and make them relatable.
This book is fit for anyone (age 10-110), and would make an excellent gift. The lessons can be applied to all of life and WILL produce results (in the form of performance and fulfillment).
