Princess Mandira - Destiny’s Child

Rate this book

“She will marry someone from outside the Rajput clan,” Raj Guru says in a soft, low but clear tone, every word falling like pebbles in the stillness of water. Shock waves reverberate inside the walls of the Raj Mandir. Everyone is dumbstruck as this is unthinkable and unacceptable.
The Raj Guru shakes his head slowly and replies, ”I have done my calculations many times and the same reading keeps coming out every single time. She will not marry anyone from Hindustan! The person she marries will come from across seven seas.”
Queen Shwetambari gets up from her throne in part shock and part excitement. If she plays her cards properly, then she could remove the last trace of Queen Serenova’s memories from their lives and get back her glory and power once again….

Eighteen years later, Princess Mandira marries Sir Victor, the Duke of Cornwall to gain independence for her country from the British rule. The story is set in the early eighteenth century and moves from the exotic terrain of the Himalayas across seven seas to the all-powerful Great Britain. What follows is a nail biting interaction when the grandeur and valour of the Rajput culture meets the cool elegance of the British nobility. Through the beautiful Mandira, the author in her two series explores the effect that the Hindu philosophy has when it is placed against the backdrop of a British landscape and brings out some interesting comparisons between two very diverse cultures!

I was born and brought up in Kolkata but hails from the exotic and colourful land of the Rajputs, Rajasthan, India. After finishing my graduation at Jadavpur University, I got married and shifted to Delhi. My passion for design and décor translated into a décor company that curated event décor for twenty years. During this period, I also trained with Pioneer Balloons, USA to become the first certified balloon artist in India. I am a skilled communicator, a quick learner with a creative bent of mind and a perfectionist in whatever I do. When fate struck a blow and I had to sell my business due to a debilitating illness, I channelled my creativity into writing this book. My son Rananjay was the motivating factor who gave her me the confidence to pen the story of Princess Mandira-Destiny's Child for publishing. Being deeply spiritual, I believe that my journey as an author has helped me recover from my illness and evolve to a higher level of awareness where small things in life like a walk in the park with blooming flowers and spending a lazy afternoon with friends in the winter sun give deep inner pleasure.

I picked up this book due to catchy cover. I loved the cover and I read the blurb and it seemed unique. I will briefly summarise the story. It’s story of princess of kingdom Hindukush. Queen Serenova was in labor and they couldn’t save her. Queen Serenova was the most favourite of the King so he thought princess Mandira was the reason behind her death. Astrologers predicted that she will marry someone out of the Rajput clan. That was a great deal at that time. Eighteen years later she married to Sir Victor keeping in mind the motive that is freedom for the kingdom. Read the book to unfold further plot.
As I said earlier, cover and plot is amazing. It’s quite unique. The writing style of the author is lucid. The story has lots of twists and turns. I liked the narration style. The story flowed smoothly. I could imagine the scenes. Overall good one. Recommended from my side.

If you have ever been searching for a character which is equivalent to Bahubali, but portrayed by a female protagonist, Princess Mandira would aptly fit the bill. Trust me, when I was reading the book, the portrayal o the Kingdom, The Princess made me stunned and astonished as Madhurima has brought the sheer brilliance of magnanimity through her writing. I wouldn't be surprised if this is been made into a multilingual movie with the lead role being doned by none other than Anushka Shetty herself.

Coming to the review now. This is the first part of the two part series(prequel) and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it from the beginning till the end. King Raghavendra aka Maharana ruled HinduKush kingdom. He had eleven wives but one who was very dear to him was Queen Serenova. As the name suggests, she was not from India. When she delivers the protagonist, Princess Mandira, she dies due to delivery related complications. King starts hating her and so as the other wives(step mothers) who wanted to get rid of her.

Luckily, the baby gets saved by Raj Guru who appoints his better half Geeta Bai and his own son Nathu as her care taker. She was taken away from the palace and lives in Ashram. Though she was away from the Royal Family/Palace, she was taught all the arts including singing, dancing, cooking, fighting, politics, drawing among others. Though this was done in order to save the Rajput royal family from falling into disgrace, destiny had other plans.

Mandira who turns out to be a beautiful Princess when she grows up had to marry a person who comes from abroad.

Why did this happen?
Did she face any consequences after her marriage?
Was she made aware that she was a Princess?
Who married her?

All your questions will find the answers in this beautifully portrayed novel which will give you goosebumps. The character started living through my eyes right from the birth till the end of the story and would continue to live since there is a sequel to it :-)

Book Title: Princess Mandira -  Destiny's Child
Author: Madhurima Jain
Format: Paperback

Book Title:
The title of the book ' Princess Mandira -  Destiny's Child ' is mysterious and attractive.

Book Cover:
The cover image of the book is an artistic depiction of a princess who is extremely beautiful with a striking feature of violet-colored eyes.

My review:
The book is a story of the princess of the kingdom Hindukush.  As in the blurb, Queen Serenova was in labor and they couldn’t save her. Queen Serenova was the most favorite of the King so he thought princess Mandira was the reason behind her death. Astrologers predicted that she will marry someone out of the Rajput clan. That was a great deal at that time. Eighteen years later she married Sir Victor keeping in mind the motive that is freedom for the kingdom.  This is the first part of the two-part series and it was interesting to read.

The story was in similar lines of many other fictional fantasy stories about kings, kingdoms, princes, and princesses. But the point which stands highlight is the Princess is the hero of the story. Though there are some things which are very unrealistic as the work is a fantasy fiction those points merge within the story easily.

What I like:
1. The story as it is a work of fantasy fiction, children under the guidance of elders can also read it.
2. The princess shown as a physically strong person stands out for me. Kudos to the author for breaking the cliché characterization.
3. An amalgamation of different cultures was a good point to read.
4. The font size and paragraph indentation made me read the book at a comfortable pace.

What I didn't like:
1. At some places, the story seemed jumping off from the details.
2. A few times the plot seemed bursting with forced drama.

Characters:
All the characters were plotted well with some drawbacks.

Narration:
The story seems to be narrated well with few flaws here and there.

Language & Grammar:
Good language and vocabulary are used in the story.

My Final Verdict:
Definitely a onetime readable story.

Book Title: 3/5
Book Cover: 3/5
Plot: 3/5
Characters: 3/5
Narration: 2/5
Language & Grammar: 3/5
Final Rating: 3/5

TITLE  -  Princess Mandira – destiny ‘s child
AUTHOR -  Madhurima  Jain
“She will marry someone from outside the Rajput clan”, Raj guru says in a soft tone.
Qotd  - After hearing this kind of prophecy for a girl child, what would happen in a conservative family? what do you think?
As the Rajguru predicts, commotion spread in the Raj family and other queens saw it as an opportunity to end the last memory of king ‘ s favourite wife. Raj guru saves the princess by another prediction that she will bring glory to her father ‘s kingdom and adopt her as his own daughter. She spends the initial years of her life in the ashram, learning all the things a princess needs to know including sex education unaware of her destiny and her real identity.

Destiny plays its role and when she is eighteen years old, she marries a British high-rank officer who is close to the heir of the throne. The story revolves around Princess Mandira and her journey to England and her initial settlement in this cold country. Her journey from the girl who has abanded by her own father to the girl who accepts her destiny for the benefit of the country without knowing what is in store for her future is amazing.

On the other end, officer marries her to take the revenge of his brother ‘s death and plans to alienate her from the rest of the world. After ignoring her presence for so many days when he accidentally lays his eyes on her for the first time, lust takes control over him and he kind of rapes her but get smitten by her charm, innocence, intelligence and tries to find out the truth of his brother ‘ death.

Read this to know why did his brother killed himself and how their relationship progress in the entire story. As there is another part of this novel so it would be interesting to know how the story progresses with another twist of the heir of throne falling in with her.
When the seed of mistrust is sown, it destructs many relations .and when the relationship is new, it needs the patience to understand another person and not every person is capable of doing so which leads to heartbreaks and sometimes many other destructive results takes place which you are gonna regret in the future. There are so many lessons that you can take from this novel.
Characters are well developed and the narration is really smooth. The plot is interesting and the language is easy . so, if you love reading historical fictions, this book is for you.

The essence of the story is strong since the beginning and is what captivates the reader to look forward for more. The strong plot line acts as the backbone of the book, while the narration acted as both the pro and con of it. A first person point of narration from each character's perspective according to the scenes would have been more effective, as the third person point failed to give the depth. On the other hand, the fluidity in narration was good enough to keep the reader turning pages. A captivating element of the narration was the detailing of the events. The grandeur of the ancient Rajput clan was described very well helping the readers picturize each and every scene. But, I felt the same was missing when it came about describing the British empire. The characterisation was done well although it felt like many characters went underutilized. As far as the protagonists are concerned, the way in which Mandira's character was built was very good, but the same wasn't explored much in the latter parts of the book. But Victor's character was too wavery and there was no solidity in any trait described. The language used was quite lucid with the right choice of words, which also maintained the fast pace of the story. The cover gives a glimpse of the blurb and the title just suggests what it does. There were a very few twists in the story but each one of them was carefully placed at right positions. The end would leave the reader amazed and make them wait for the sequel.
Recommended to anyone who loves a historical fiction. I would give this a 3/5.

Summary: When Raj Guru said that she will marry someone from outside the Rajput clan, little Mandira became more distant from her father, Maharana of Hindukush, who was already blaming her for his favorite queen's death. Eighteen years later, Princess Mandira marries Sir Victor, the Duke of Cornwall, to gain independence for her country from the British rule. What follows is a nail-biting interaction when the grandeur and valor of Rajput culture meets the cool elegance of the British nobility.
.
My Take: The author has created a beautiful universe through her writing. The story will engage you from the very first page. The picturization of the Rajput clan and the calmness of Raj guru's Ashram is portrayed perfectly. The way Mandira's teaching is described, is very believable. In the second part the elegance of British Royal future is shown and that too is done neatly.
.
The thing I didn't like was Sir Victor's character. I started to like his character for his strong image but as the time proceeded he just lost his charms. The way he was keeping doing the same mistakes and was being forgiven everytime didn't go well with me. I expected more from Mandira's character. It seemed her character was revolving around Victor only. I hope in the second part more of the strong Mandira will be seen.
.
On the other hand the ending gets very interesting for the angle the author has put. It will be a great pleasure to see how the story proceeds forward in the sequel.

🏷Inside book
This is the story of princess Mandira the prodigy child ignored by her father because her mother died while giving birth to her. She is later able to gain her rightful place by her extraordinary personality. Then over the time, her kingdom clashes with British who put up two conditions either marry me and share your kingdom or war. She couldn't afford to war and waste her people's lives for nothing. after that starts royal family drama...
.
.
🏷'Princess Mandira' is a combination of royal fiction with politics.
The author has made a great effort in creating this book portrayed both Rajput & British culture in detail, the narration is also quite unshakable.
.
.
🏷But the subject of matters isn't new. prodigy child abused by parents & close ones.
Always Have an extraordinary personality. Do some incredible things. I mean we see this all the time. Well, the author's thinking is that strong and beautiful characters always give motivation to the readers, but it's getting mundane. People expecting some realistic approach. How can a royalties life can match with commoners? That's is the challenging part you have to tackle.

Book Name- Princess Mandira Destiny's Child
Author- Madhurima Jain
Review- Princess Mandira Destiny's Child is a beautiful story of a girl with royal blood flowing in her veins. The story is about those times when Britishers had their presence in India and the country was divided in Kingdoms. Born in Himalayan Kingdom to King Ragavendra. Princess Mandira was an epitome of beauty and the descriptions of her beauty and her resembling her mother was done really well. The book had a beautiful yet dreadful beginning as her birth was associated with bad news. The start of the story was so interesting and I was curious to travel through those times through this book and discover the fate of Mandira. The plot revolved around princess Mandira and her fate. Raj Guru predicted her to marry someone from overseas and I was keen to discover if she ended up marrying someone as said by Raj Guru after her birth. I really liked the concept as it is a beautiful historic fiction and I like such stories as I can visit those times and breathe in their customs and visualize royal lifestyle. The cover is really pretty and depicts Mandira being beautiful and a warrior at the same time which was really unique.

Princess Mandira by Jain Madhurima is a story of Royal princess born in Hindkush. Princess is born with purple eyes and later in life turns out to be wiser amongst all. She is the daughter of King's favourite wife Serenova. During birth of Mandira due to loss of blood, Serenova died and King felt lifeless for days. This became an opportunity for other queens to become king's favourite.

Princess Mandira was adopted by Raj Guru and she lived in his Ashram for 18 year till she got married to Sir Victor, a British officer in order to protect her father's kingdom. But Victor had planned revenge for his Brother's death.

Will he able take revenge or Mandira will come to know it all? To get an answer to this question do read Princess Mandira.

Language is easy to understand, narration is fast paced and storyline is cliché, it's the first time I ever read something related to Princess Mandira. If you are someone who is looking for a light mythology read, make sure you try it out!

Simple language with thoughtful story. Cover is good just like the exact description of the princess with purple eyes in this book. Content matches the title of the book.
Speedy and Totally gripping historical fiction which grabs the attention of the reader from the beginning.

Packed with rich cultural habits and myths. Traditional concepts of an Hindu is interwoven well with accurate description of their dressings, cultures, language, war type, daily routine, religious beliefs and education about their own religion and their beliefs in spiritual field. Apart from these, the plot set of England and Cornwell were really interesting and intriguing. The culture practices of their country is very much different from ours.

Fast paced story from the beginning to end. Compelling, Must read with love, betrayal, honour, tragedy, responsibilities and death. With this blend of history, Romance and suspense, you'll find yourself being drawn into this book.

It's a series.
I felt like this book had a spiritual touch. I had a special interest in historical fictions.
An astrologer predicted that the princess will marry someone across the sea that happens too in between Queen played the game to remove the traces of the previous queen. Revenge of victor how will all the miseries get sort out?
Language is simple and made the exact language of the 18th century. The terms are used in which belongs to the timezone of the story.
Characters are well developed and recreated the time and circumstances.
The second part of the story is my favourite part, from there this book is a page turner.
The character of the victor is my favourite, I liked his mannerism and all.
The writing style and story flow synced with a plot that best part.
I felt that the author should concentrate more on editing because there is some unwanted topic is in the book.

This book is based on the love story between a princess and Sir Victor of England. Princess Madria who was born in the Himalayan kingdom of Hindukush. During his birth she lost his mother. There many twists and turns in the story which makes the book amazing to read. Why they wanted Madrina to marry Sir Victor? There are still number of questions to be answered. The ending of this book is very romantic. This Royal love story between Princess Madrina destiny's child and Sir Victor with full of drama makes it worth a read.

This story lies in the British age . It revolves around Princess mandira, a girl from royal family of Himalayan kingdom . Rajguru has predicted her future and also states that she will bring fortune , she will marry a non Rajput. Eventhough she is a princess she doesn't knows her real identity and is living in completly opposite environment. When she became major she married a person who betrayed her with the revenge of his brother's death. I liked the story . It took me to the past. I think it would be better if the author had filtered it more better .

Question after the book- Do you believe in the destiny ?

Book “Princess Mandira: Destiny’s Child” is fiction book relating to period prior to 19th Century. Princess Mandira was born at King Raghvendra’s palace at the cost of life of her mother at the time of birth. Astrologers predicted that she would marry to an overseas person out of caste but she would be lifting the luck of the whole kingdom. A British prince saw princess in his journey to India and asked the king to get him married to princess. King put 3 conditions which prince could not complete and committed suicide. His brother Victor came to know about this who feels to take revenge.

1. How would Prince Victor succeed in taking revenge? Whether he would marry princess or kill princess to take revenge? How would princess defendMandira herself from any of the action of Prince Victor?
2. Whether princess Mandira’s destiny of marrying to an overseas person would come true? What will happen to the pride of family if princess Mandira marries to an overseas person?

Things I liked were-
1. Language of the book was easy and comfortable
2. Plot was nice, historic and beautiful.
3. All the characters (especially Victor and Geeta Ma) were shown strongly.
4. Cover of the book was captivating.
5. Title of the book was lovely. However, each chapter was not given any title.
6. Story had good narration and description. It was fast moving and kept the interest of readers.

Only things I didn’t like were-
1. In between story was inconsistent for few narrations.(Spoiler alert: for example when King put 3 conditions in palace before prince Thomas and Prince Victor, the people didn’t get to know that Mandira was king’s daughter, no reaction by prince Thomas when informed by king about the real father of Mandira etc.)
2. End of the book also happened in a slightly opposite way than expected.

Overall book was interesting and beautifully narrated. I strongly recommend this book.
