Jason Richards is the author of the Drew Patrick hard-boiled detective crime thriller series. He has enjoyed reading detective and thriller stories since he was a child. His biggest inspirations are the tough and witty hard-boiled Boston P.I. Spenser, by Robert B. Parker, and Elvis Cole by Robert Crais.
Jason loves writing the Drew Patrick novels and hopes his readers enjoy being part of the adventures. Like his main character, Jason is a lifelong fan of Boston sports -- particularly his beloved Red Sox. He lives in Massachusetts with his wife, teenage son, and a Beagle-mix dog (the inspiration for Dash).
Thoroughly engaging mystery. It starts out innocently enough. Drew is hired by a rich older woman to get proof of her husband's cheating. He's always cheated but now she's had enough and is going to seek a divorce. In following Nevin, he discovers much, much more than just cheating. He's attorney for a crime family in Boston and the more Drew digs, the worse it gets. Then the twists start. Hold on to your seat! Excellent mystery. Looking forward to the next one.
I received an ARC from the author and this is my voluntary review.
Deception is the third book in the "Drew Patrick Private Investigator" series, with PI Drew Patrick as the lead character.
Deception begins with Elizabeth Barlow who suspects that her husband, Nevin Barlow, is cheating on her. But as Drew starts to gather evidence of this, he comes to realise that there is something even more heinous going on, involving money-laundering and murder. After an informant is mowed down just yards from her office at Nevin’s law firm, Barlow, Hughes and Waterford, where she is a legal assistant, Drew knows that Nevin and his associates will stop at nothing to keep their secrets hidden.
I loved that Drew’s significant other and able assistant, Jessica Casey, made a return appearance in this instalment. With a sufficiently thrilling plot and snippets of amusing dialogue to keep the reader entertained, this delightful novella was well worth a read. Though short, it was very nicely written and even though the ending was not much of a surprise, I still loved the way the book was concluded.
Reading Deception has inspired me to read other books by Jason Richards and I can't wait for the next one in this series!
Drew is so confident and a little bit fun. A woman comes to Drew to get proof that her husband is cheating on her. It was easy to find the information, but he also uncovers more. An old friend from the FBI joins forces with him to uncover more crimes. This is fast paced and good suspense.
I received this book through ARC in exchange of an honest review. Fast paced, well developed characters, an intriguing concept, all make this an interesting read. Plenty of twists, a must read!
