Traditional gender roles are rapidly changing. It is a revolution of the deepest kind and this book will explore what it means to be a dad, with all its facets and challenges. Dads that are confident and more hands-on means a happier family and The Father Hood is the perfect guide to make this a reality.
Full of advice, inspirational quotes, tactics, plus interviews with both celebrities and the everyday male, The Father Hood is a must-have book for anyone intending to make the 3.0 father feel less disoriented and alone on the great journey that is fatherhood.
There are interviews and “Words from the wise”, which are written from fathers to other fathers, passing on their experiences of caring for their children. Chapters include single dads, how grandparents are modern superheroes, what it means to date a woman who has a child, the challenges of a blended family and much more because being a dad shouldn’t account for stereotypes.
Whether it is for you or for someone else, the graphic and contents of The Father Hood will touch your soul.
There were bits in this book that really hit home (tears), and I’m a better dad after reading it.
That said, I look forward to the day men and fathers don’t have to caveat their presence, openness and emotional depth with “but I’m still a beer swilling manly man.” Just be a person. Own the sensitivity required to nurture tiny humans. Love is good. Many of the stories they’ve collected highlight fathers being more, but despite being an impactful book, it still started off with a small group of dudes getting drunk on a dudes trip and having an idea. Also, while the layout and format makes the book approachable it made me feel like they were dumbing it down because they don’t truly believe men have moved on from the cartoon oafs portrayed on television.
The Father Hood is one of my favourite books for new dads. It is modern and inclusive. Some of my favourite quotes in the book are: "Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them" "Your kids are always watching (always watching) and your conduct defines their values. If you want to teach your kids that hard work breeds success then Beckham's suggestion is you must step up to the plate yourself" "One of the greatest things a father can do for his children is to love their mother" "The best thing to spend on your kids is your time" "Live so they look up to you, however big they grow"
A book that was recommended was "To Raise Happy Kids, Put Your Marriage First" by David Code.
Easy to read book. It was reassuring to hear from other contemporary fathers, their struggles and high points. Made me feel proud and lucky to be a Dad.
