Being a gay teenager in 1985 wasn't easy, especially if your life resembled a movie plot. As did Sam's. But despite numerous plot holes and unexpected twist along the way, he stayed determined to get his happy ending. Life is no film but sometimes it's even better.Join Sam on a rollercoaster ride of his life. References are being made (intentionally and unintentionally) to such classic movies as Sixteen Candles, Dirty Dancing, Nightmare on Elm Street, Breakfast Club and many more. No explicit sex scenes are included.
Written in the same vein as Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda (Love Simon).
It is about a boy that falls in love and takes the long way round to figure it all out.
Author could have done a better job - The book doesn't flow well. There are times I am trying to figure out how far we have skipped ahead. Also, one of the main characters has a younger brother at the start of the book, but when their family goes on vacation the younger brother isn't mentioned or on the family vacation. Just holes in the story to find distracting.
DNFed the first book @ 50%!! I already rated the first book but since I downloaded the bundle through Kindle Unlimited [thank goodness for KU; it saved me from buying this crap], I decided to rate the bundle too!! Crap, crap, crap!!
OH and I've read multiple reviews AFTER I DNFed to see if I was alone in my opinion (not that I gave a damn if I was), and the cherry on this shitcake is that CHEATING is a big thing in this series!!! FUCKING HELL TO THE NO!!!!!!!!!
What a cute coming of age love story. As you can see from the front cover, this is a love M/M romance. The story starts with Sam in high school and we follow him through high school to college. But he has to choose between two people that he loves; Jake and Mitch. Along the way you will meet his friends Melissa and Kenan. Sam will run out not some obstacles, but finally finds his true love. All four stories are simply amazing and you will fall in love with the characters. Perie Wolford did an amazing job with these four stories and bringing you into your life of Sam and his friends.
I loved the series! Sam is so adorable and funny and blind-sighted at times. We've seen his grow up, learn taking resposibilities for his actions. It's been a rollercoster ride for his and Jake, and Mitch. I'm so glad it all worked out in the end. Amazing books. Loved all 4 of them.
Sam's Not So Popular Love Life is a fun young adult romance.
Anyone who grew up in the 80's will enjoy all the music references for sure. It made me smile and made me laugh. The author basically brings you a very John Hughes like story.
This Perie Wolford read is an authentic look at the life of gay teens in time. The main character, Sam, is clueless as he learns about his body and his attraction to guys.
That said, as this is four books in one collection, it's a little much to read all at once. Space it out a little and you might get less mad at the characters. Hey, they're young and do stupid things. Nothing wrong with that. But spacing it out might help.
Basically, Sam's Not So Popular Love Life is a great read when you're in the mood for some nostalgia via a John Hughes like book.
Turning 16 or Sam Dorsey & His Sixteen Candles Absolutely fantastic! Lots of 80's references that made me smile. I laughed out loud throughout the story. Sam has to navigate friendships and runaway hormones while trying to figure out how to connect with his crush Jake. Mitch steps into the picture and things begin to go sideways. I loved the very John Hughes ending.
Audiobook: I loved Michael Pauley's reading. He consistently sounded like a 16-year-old boy from 1985 with perfect inflections on the vernacular of the era.
I'll be adding to this review as I finish the other books in the collection.
3.5 stars. Angsty, whiney teenager crap. Autobiographical point of view. Tedious. And the four sections, books in and of themselves, could use the fine tuning of a decent editor.
I've read other works by Mr Wolford, and approached this, from the older section of my to be read stack, with some trepidation. Unfortunately, these stories did not impress or improve my thoughts on his writing.
