This book was amazing! I couldn’t put it down!! Sharon took a childhood full of trauma and a tragic event and turned it in to a growth opportunity. Instead of living life as a victim she worked through issues it caused and has broke the cycle of damage in her family for her kids and future grandchildren, etc. It a quick read and has great steps anyone can implement to improve their lives and relationships. I love the explanation of the ripple effect through generations directly and indirectly. It helps answer, why me? Your choices have consequences and how that impacts your life as well as others lives. How to set boundaries with people who want to see you stay broken because of their damage it’s serves a purpose for them to hold you back! This was very well written!! I love the section on how to make decisions based on your values and if it’s not in alignment how that impact your life. So many people don’t understand why the same things keep happening and don’t see or look for the patterns repeating themselves. She was able to identify patterns and learn from them so she doesn’t repeat them. Healing comes in pieces sections was great! Whether you are Religous or not you will find value in this book. I recommend this book to everyone!

I was privileged to have a preview copy to read and I have to say it was exceptional. I did cry for the child, wept for the girl in the garage and cheered for the adult. Don't be afraid to read this book. Though Sharon's tale is tragic, she does not shock us with graphic detail. Rather she uses her experience to help others heal and grow in their faith. Sharon doesn't just tell her tale, she actually gives you tools to turn trauma around and better your life. I am blessed to have read this and highly recommend this book to anyone dealing with past hurt, or trauma and dealing with the guilt and shame it can leave you with. A life changer.

This book outlines the trauma of abuse the author suffered at the hands of people she should have been able to trust. While she doesn't go into detail about that abuse (she very thoughtfully wrote it that way so as not to trigger a reader), she very adeptly draws you in. More importantly, she gives practical, step by step solutions on how to overcome trauma and let go of your past, so it doesn't define your future. She writes in a style that makes you feel as if you are having a chat with a trusted friend, not in the stereotypical self-help motif. I think everyone can take away something valuable from this book.

Healing from trauma

Sharon's vulnerability in The Girl in the Garage is a brave move to helping others find hope and healing. As someone who understands trauma, Sharon assists others through their healing with unique questions, in this study guide format, that really make you pause to think deeply about her questions. I will carry with me the methods and questions she asks to continue my healing journey.

The Girl in the Garage is a short book full of meaning. It shows that no matter what you've gone through there is always a way out of the past to a beautiful future. The book is inspirational and motivational to everyone, no matter if they had childhood trauma or not, because it shows that change is possible. It preaches self-love and growth and happy life - isn't that what we all want? I recommend 100%.

This book is for anyone who has experienced heartbreaking pain, rejection and/or trauma of any kind. {That includes most of us at one time or another.} Wherever you are in your life, no matter how deep your problems, Sharon speaks to you right where you are. She has been there, and she writes with transparency and poignant honesty. Her story of walking through abuse and abandonment is real without being cynical, heartbreaking without being hopeless. Sharon does not minimize life's pain in an effort to maximize God.

Reading The Girl In The Garage is like having a good friend who has felt the same pain you are going through hold your hand along the way through recovery. This book always points to Jesus, and is helpful and validating of where you are at in this point of your life journey, or where you have been. What I love most about this book is the workbook portion, a tool that will help you discover, love and accept who you really are. Sharon reminds you that you aren’t walking your path alone, there is hope around the corner. If you've struggled with brokenness, shame, trauma and self worth issues, this book will walk you through the core steps you need to get a breakthrough. This is a book I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I’ve already gifted several copies to other women who have all said reading this is changing their lives.
