This is a basic reader appropriate for grades k-2 but would need to be read aloud to kinder. This book gives a basic overview of pirate life and pirate ships. It has a “what’s in this book” section, a “words to know” section, and an index. The pictures are all staged and some illustrated. The information is very basic. It would be good as an introduction to pirates or as a read more on your own kind of extension. I also think it could be used for a vocab study once the text bolds the vocab words. I also like that it has a section on different pirate flags.
Good for K-2 Clear titles and featured vocabulary give this book a clean look which is easy to follow for young children. Table of contents, glossary, and index in kid friendly forms. Charts and pictures all illustrated.
Meh. Nick loves pirates, and pirate books--this one was a little flat compared to some of the books he's brought home. Probably geared toward a younger child.
