Dr. George Blacksmith describes his healing journey from residential school survivor to once again proud member of the Cree Nation. In his own words, he describes being a prisoner of the system and a hostage to despair.
The author is a swampy Cree - the nation I'm born into. I found myself hearing of histories of Cree peoples, the severe shift of life that happened and how the author experienced them.
I work for Cree peoples and with the Cree School Board. I share in the authors perspectives there are two kind of schools Cree are faced to find balance of, determined to find meaning to themselves and living by their rightful place in community.
I will read this once more (and again).
I'm very thankful of the time, efforts and read of this book to the author (always).
