I didn't love this play. The tone of it seems to be deliberately odd - lots of direct address to the audience, characters just declaring their emotions without any subtlety. This is part of the satirical style, but it doesn't really work for me. It would be interesting to see if this worked better in live performance, and if it got some laughs.
Satirises empire, war and religion. But not sure if the satire is successful, or makes a point we don't already know nowadays - perhaps this was different in the 60s during the fall of the empire. Didn't feel connected to the characters.
