I have read many thyroid books and I absolutely loved this one. I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and like Rachel given levothyroxine and got worse. I discovered Rachel's Facebook group The invisible hypothyroidism when I wasn't getting much help on other groups I'd joined. After following Rachel she helped me interpret my results and I was lucky enough to get some cash to pay for a functional doctor who got to my root causes and I felt better and i did advocate myself. I really wish this book was around when I got my first diagnosis. Other thyroid books I've read have also been brilliant but sometimes difficult to understand due to a mass array of scientific jargon used. If anyone gets diagnosed with UAT I would whole heartedly recommend people buy this book first. It's easy to follow and makes you understand that actually you should take control of your life, you should research and try and understand the reasons behind you feeling so unwell. Once I got my root causes under control I felt better but I wouldn't of done that had Rachel not recommended books on her Facebook page and alternative practitioners who can help. It's a very easy read for those who are struggling with thyroid disease. It puts you at ease and makes you feel less scared about why you feel so awful! Very well written, its written in a personal way to make you feel like a friend is reaching out to reassure and help you feel at ease. Thank you for writing this book Rachel, I will definitely be recommending it to anyone feeling unwell with thyroid disease, sometimes people just need a gentle push to get their own life back on track and I feel that this book does that.
I have been following the author on Instagram fro several months. When I found out her book was about to be released, I couldn’t wait to purchase. It is so interesting to read I couldn’t put it down. The book empowers you and guides you to getting yourself actually feeling better and the steps to take to make it happen. My biggest takeaway was a recommendation to see a Functional Medicine Doctor. I wound up finding out that I have heart disease - even though my regular doc did an EKG a couple weeks prior and said my heart was great. This book possibly saved my life, or at least got me in the road to reduce the aging process. Oh... and naturally derived thyroid meds are way better than synthetic - which I have been on for years. This is a must read for all people who suffer from Thyroid dysfunction!
This book was really great at helping me understand more about my thyroid condition and where to start looking to treat it. Mostly though, it helped me validate my experiences and gave me hope. I didn't know how much I needed someone to help me see I'm not crazy or a difficult patient just because modern medicine doesn't understand how to help. A must read.
Rachel Hill is so knowledgeable about hypothyroidism, and this book, Be Your Own Thyroid Advocate, has been a helpful resource after my own recent diagnosis. The absolute true feelings of acknowledgment of how I feel myself gave my hope that I can get through life with this ugly disease. Filled with information to help educate, I find this a wonderful book to reference often and already read it twice.
I have Hashimotos and you can see why this fast paced book is needed in my life.
I like that she explains quickly and that she manages to add a lot of information that I never had before about Hashimotos. It’s filled with many little known facts about the condition and I love that. Many of them are very useful, like the fact that we need to wear more clothes than regular people during winter and increase our med dose.
Whether you’ve just been diagnosed or have been suffering from a thyroid problem for years, this book will explain everything for you. From how it will affect you to what to do when you can’t get answers or help from your GP... it’s all in here. Highly recommended read!
I've suffered with Hashimotos for 4 years and have read several books about the disease. If you are newly diagnosed I would highly recommend you read this book first. It's easy to read and Rachel Hill offers advice and guidance that you will understand.
This book was very helpful In insight for with information regarding specifically to Thyroid issues of all degrees. I appreciate it the personal perspective and the fact that this person suffers from The same disease It's so helpful to have it Is Nice to have Information from a person with personal experience.
Suffered with hypothyroidism since my early 20's reading this has opened my eyes on how to improve my health dealing with the invisible chronic illness
If.you suffer with hypothyroidism this book is a must read Rachel has done a fantastic job simplifying and easy to understand chapters on getting help with your thyroid
A good place to start if recently diagnosed. End of chapter summaries helpful and there’s an excellent list of websites & other sources at the end of the book.
A solid starting point to understanding and advocating for hypothyroidism. A must read for those fighting through the brain fog. It is optimistic and filled with references to explore long after finishing.
I am thankful for all the resources and for Rachel Hill sharing her personal story. It has helped me immensely with my fairly new diagnosis, understanding all the symptoms years before my diagnosis, and a recently flare up. I now have hope moving forward.
I absolutely loved this book! So helpful and sincere. As an author and award-winning blogger, Rachel Hill does so much to advocate for thyroid health. I can't wait for her next book to come out:)
