இயற்கை உண்டாக்கி வைத்திருக்கும் விஞ்ஞான இரகசியங்களை இப்பொழுது தான் மெல்ல மெல்ல நெருங்கி அதன் புரிதலை அறிந்து கொண்டு வருகிறோம். அதிலும் கருந்துளையைப் பற்றிய புனைவுகள் எப்பொழுதுமே சுவாரசியம் கூட்டுபவை.

பனி படர்ந்த சூழலில் இருக்கும் லயத்தைக் காட்டி சுற்றுலா பயணிகளை இழுக்க இந்திய அரசாங்கம் இரயில் பாதையை அவ்விடத்தில் உருவாக்கி விண்டர் குயின் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் எனும் இரயிலையும் விட முடிவெடுத்து அதற்கான ஏற்பாடுகள் அனைத்தும் நிறைவுற்று இரயில் முதல் நாள் புறப்படப் போகும் வேளையில் போன்மிரட்டல் எழுகிறது. பனி இருக்கும் இடத்தில் வரும் மிரட்டல் என்பதால் தீவிரவாதிகளோ என்று நினைத்தால் அது தவறு.

அச்சுறுத்தலையும் மீறி தன் முதல் பயணத்தைத் தொடங்கிய இரயில் இருக்கும் பயணிகள் மாபெரும் சத்தத்தை மட்டுமே கேட்கின்றனர். சத்தத்தின் காரணியைத் தேடும் போது அவ்வளவு பெரிய எஞ்சின்பெட்டி காணாமல் மாயமாகி இருக்கிறது, அதை இயக்கிய ப்ரதாப்பும் மாயத்தின் சூனியவெளியிலே கண்ணில் புலப்படாமல் போக இப்புதிரை விடுவிக்கும் நோக்கில் சிலரின் தேடுதல் வேட்டை தொடர்கிறது. அதன் முடிவு மறைந்ததாகச் சொல்லப்பட்ட எஞ்சின் கிடைக்கிறது சில நாட்களிலே ஆனாலும் அது முப்பது வருட பழமை என்ற அடையாளத்துடன். குழப்பம் மேலும் சிக்கலாகும் போது அறிவியலின் ஆராய்வு இங்கே தேவைப்படுகிறது.

மின்னலின் மூலம் அதிக மின்அழுத்தம் கடத்தப்பட இரயில் செல்லும் பாதையில் ஒரு கருந்துளை உருவாகவிட எஞ்சின்பெட்டியுடன் அதில் நுழைந்த ப்ரதாப் முப்பது வருடம் பின்னோக்கி சென்றுவிடுகிறார் காலச் சுழட்சியில். பழங்குடி மக்களிடையே விழுந்தவர் அவர்களின் உயர்வுக்குப் பாடுபட்டது தனிகதை. எதிர்காலத்தில் அந்தக் கருந்துளையில் விழாமல் இருக்க ப்ரதாப் எடுத்த முயற்சிகள் வேலைக்கு ஆகாமல் இயற்கை தன் காரியத்தைக் கச்சிதமாக முடித்துவிடுகிறது.
