Rate this book
From the author of Stories on the Integrating Literature and Movement with Children from Infants to Age 14 (over 1,500 sold and used by parents, teachers, and librarians internationally), Arlene Cohen has created the Literacy on the Move Series : entertaining picture books that develop literacy skills. The first in the series for 2-6 year olds, is The Dancing Chameleons . Also see The Dancing Reptiles for 4-8 year olds, and The Dancing Dogs for 6-10 year olds. All are now available on Amazon. Bored being just verde (green) on a leaf or marron (brown) on a trunk, Carlos the Chameleon ventures out on a limb to see and be more colors. He turns amarillo (yellow) when he dances La Mariposa Mambo with the yellow butterfly, roja (red) when he dances La Rumba Rosa with the red roses, and purpura (purple) when he dances El Tulipan Tango with the purple tulips. Life is exciting now! Carlos, the multi-colored chameleon dances all over the limb, singing loudly, "Life is exciting. Life is Fun. When you're out on a limb; out in the Sun." He draws the attention of his friends back at the trunk. They tell him he better stop that nonsense or he might get caught and fried in a tortilla. But, that doesn't stop Carlos for very long. He heads back out to the limb. On the way, he makes a new friend, Carmelita who also loves to dance. She joins Carlos out on the limb until they get captured in a glass jar by a hiker. Will they get fried in a tortilla? No worry, the hiker has big plans for them. They are released into his beautiful backyard garden where they will entertain and enchant the whole neighborhood with their unique dance routines. Children easily learn new words in Spanish and English as they simultaneously develop movement agility and an appreciation of literature. Developmental biologist/educator, Charles Piaget's research revealed that movement is a central part of the learning experience. As a dancer and librarian, Arlene incorporates creative movement with early literacy skills to entertain and develop whole children. This is also a concept book that includes learning colors in English and Spanish. Now Available : The Dancing Reptiles for 4-8 year olds and T he Dancing Dogs for 5-10 year olds.

A fun and educational read for young children...

The Dancing Chameleons: Literacy on the Move (Book 1) is a fun and educational book for the younger reader (ages 2-6). Author Arlene Cohen writes in a wonderful, simple and imaginative style that will guarantee the attention of young minds. This charming book is a fun way for children to learn colors in English and Spanish while also introducing them to easy verbs, nouns, and adjectives. If you ever wanted to bond even more with your children or grandchildren, this would be a lovely entertaining read to share with them. Special mention also to the illustrator Holly Carton for the excellent artwork. Highly recommended.

The Dancing Chameleons: Literacy on the Move: Book 1 is a book written by children's book author Arlene N. Cohen. This edition brings us a wonderful book for children between two to and six years old. The illustrations in this book are eye-catching and fun. It has an age-appropriate vocabulary but also allows little ones to learn new words. What surprises me the most is the use of Spanish words that were interchanged from the English phrases. In this way children combine the two languages naturally.
The main character of this book is a chameleon named Carlos and he tells us how it can be transformed change into any color. He loves to dance and sing. He meets some friends with whom he has a lot of fun.
Despite being a book for the little ones, it provides a great variety of language and allows the little ones them to exercise cognitive abilities, enjoying this book it as if it were a game. I definitely recommend this book for the little ones little kids. It can be a great time to spend with our children teaching them while playing.

A colourful and joyful book to read with toddlers.
The title and cover of this book caught my attention from the very beginning. “Dancing Chameleons: Literacy on the mover” is a great and riveting reading for children. It was written by Cohen Arlene who has a background as a creative movement teacher and dancing storyteller. She also writes for adults.
The plot revolves around a curious and lovely chameleon, Carlos, who is bored of being green. So, Carlos decides to search for colors and friends to dance with him. He wants to show everyone that life is enjoyable, and it is worth living it dancing and singing. Also, you will find that the narrative switches from English and Spanish. It is a lovely book!
In a nutshell, it is eye-catching and shows a nice and important message about life. I think that it is an excellent bed-time story and why not, an excellent one to sing with the little ones in the house. I truly recommend it!

The Dancing Chameleons is a children’s book written through the eyes of Carlos, a chameleon who is tired of just being colour green (verde) or brown (marrón).
Its author, Arlene Cohen, has done an amazing job in blending Spanish words, specially related to colours, and expressions with her English narrative and craft this story for children between 2 and 6 years old. It is a perfect read if you want your children to start picking up some words in Spanish, for bilingual kids and also if you want to start teaching the younger ones how colours are said in both languages.
It is a fun, fast and really satisfying story that serves multi purposes; it is useful for parents to enjoy with kids at home or for teachers to employ in their classes.
All the children who have the opportunity to enjoy this book will get fascinated by the illustrations of the chameleon, flowers and elements of nature which are depicted in a colourful manner all along the book.

This book by Arlene N. Cohen is written for young readers as a way to help build their literacy skills and teach them words in both English and Spanish.

The book tells the story of a bored chameleon, named Carlos, who decides that he’s tired of his current colors and wants to find new ones. As he begins his journey, he discovers a plethora of new colors he can turn into. Along the way, Carlos meets many new friends, such as Mariposa Amarillo and Rosas Rojas.

Cohen writes with an engaging style that will captivate young readers. Each page contains beautiful illustrations so young ones can read along while visually understanding what is going on. To help teach Spanish words, there is an English translation next to them. This will encourage the reader to better comprehend the two languages.

If you’re on the search for a fun yet educational book to give to a child, this is one to definitely consider.

“The Dancing Chameleons: Literacy on the move” is the first book in a series written by Arlene N. Cohen and illustrated by Holly Carton.
It is a lovely book aimed at kids aged between two and six. This is the story of a chameleon named Carlos. He is tired of his plain green colour and wants to change, having a colourful body.
The story has a very good use of English to Spanish translations that are very helpful to teach children from a very young age while they are having fun and enjoying the story. I read this book to my little nieces and they loved it; they liked the story very much and were very happy with its illustrations.
I would certainly recommend reading The Dancing Chameleons because it is a beautiful story that leaves very important messages. I am giving it five stars because kids will love it as my nieces did.

Cute and educational

This is a sweet story about a chameleon who wants to be colorful instead of playing it safe (with typical camouflage colors of green and brown). This book teaches a handful of basic Spanish words too. His "friends" aren't very nice to him and he gets kidnapped at one point, but overall most of the message is uplifting and upbeat.
