Top-notch - juvenile historical fiction with plenty of facts included. Each of the 11 chapters is just a two-page spread, but there's a lot of text on each, good for read-aloud, plus a single illustration that shows some of the story. An introduction sets things up and there is a picture glossary with a map. Finally there's a short bibliography for further reading. This is part of a series covering many historical eras. I look forward to exploring more of them.
We read this side-by-side with Clyde Bulla's Viking Adventure, which is a better story (and much longer), but leans more on the fiction and less on the teaching. It was a great combination.
