The Z Factor: How to Lead Gen Z to Workplace Success

Rate this book
Innovative, young, and ambitious, Generation Z is ready to make an impact on the world. But they are far different from past generations, and business leaders need to adjust their workplace practices to help this new group of workers succeed. The Z How to Lead Gen Z to Workplace Success centers around a generation that many professionals don’t even have on their radar. Gen Zers, born in 1997 and beyond, are bringing unique skills, values, and mindsets to work. Author Rohin Shahi noticed that many think Gen Zers are simply “millennials on steroids.” As a Gen Zer himself, he wanted to shed light on a generation that has been largely mislabeled and stereotyped. You will love this book if you are curious about this newest group of workers, whether you're a Gen Zer yourself or an experienced business leader who wants to create a welcoming, sustainable and growth-oriented culture for the next generation of workers. Drawing from experienced industry psychologists, recent studies, and personal insight, Shahi provides a simple approach to bridging generational gaps and helping Gen Z grow and thrive.

Quick read

It’s an interesting take, but a lot of the content is very anecdotal. If you’re reading a few books on Gen Z, this could be one of them, just don’t make it the only one.

Reading as a Gen Z/Millennial cusp myself about to enter the workforce in a year's time, I found this book to make interesting and valid points regarding Generation Z. Coming from a Gen Z author himself, the ideas are fresh: ones that I have not seen spoken about by older generations and therefore making them especially important for older generations to be aware of. The author's tone is self-aware and often humorous, making this book an easy and enjoyable read. Although the book seems to focus on white-collar work bound individuals in Generation Z, the repeated use of outside sources adds credibility and relevance to the points made. Overall, the book paints a comprehensive picture of who a Gen Z individual is, what they do and don't value, and what they will be expecting in the workplace in the not-so-distant future.

Not much research in some claims that are stated which left me wanting more concrete understanding of leading the next generation and how to communicate through the years. Seems like lots of anecdotal evidence from a Gen Z person and large brush strokes on a generation.

Visionary

Rohin writes with a strong, unique, funny, and engaging voice that made this a quick, great read. He provides valuable insight and actionable ways companies can make the workplace more welcoming and better geared to Gen Z. As a Gen Zer myself, I agree with much of Rohin's research and can't wait to see workplaces take these actions in the future.

Shahi provides insightful perspective about the future of Gen Z in the workplace, backing up his views with research and knowledge from experts. As a member of Gen Z myself, I learned new things about my generation and about how companies can create an environment for Gen Z employees to thrive. A great read for anyone in Gen Z or anyone curious about the impact this new generation will have in the workplace.
