This We Believe

Rate this book
This book is an expansion of the published affirmation/statement with the same name and explains what the gospel is. More imporant, it shows why spiritual leaders are thrilled to join together and claim, all in accord, "This We Believe.”

A very thorough, multi-perspective view of the Christian gospel based on the statements making up “The Gospel of Jesus Christ: An Evangelical Celebration”. The chapters provide a rich and varied set of voices, each picking up on an element of the gospel statement. The book is worthwhile for the first appendix alone, though each chapter also contributes valuable insight.

I hope every evangelical Christian picks this up and reads it - not just because of what it says about what Christians believe about the gospel, but also because of what it explicitly denies. I have the impression that many Christians do not really understand the good news it is that forms the foundation of their faith. 'This we believe' is a wonderfully concise and authoritative summary.

This was simply good enough for me to finish reading. The thing that was (probably) intended to set this apart - multiple authors from differing denominations - really made this a so-so read. Some are better than others at writing and conveying a point. Some write like a pastor writes a sermon. Some write like a journalist. It turned out to be very inconsistent as a reader and distracting some of the times.
