Visions of Mistletoe: A Ridlington Christmas Novella

Rate this book
Who is the woman in the mirror?

Take one solitary, nameless gentleman, a woman helpless and desperate — and add mistletoe. One has a strange gift, the other an unusual heritage, and together they will make unexpected Christmas magic, since they’re both searching for the same thing although they don’t know it.

Michael FitzDoone, adrift in a snowstorm, stumbles across the chance for a meal and a bed—something he can’t turn down. Ariadne Wilton makes the offer without thinking his arrival might portend a change in her future. And neither could imagine the heat that will explode between them or where a mysterious prediction will guide their unusual journey. It may well include a solid punch on the nose, something odd stuck up a tree, unexpected revelations, and of course—kisses and mistletoe.

It’s an enchanting Ridlington Christmas adventure that will bring some holiday joy into more than just two lives...

I'm really rather boring... Honestly. I live a pretty hum-drum life as a wife and mother. I shop at the local supermarket and use coupons now and again. See? Boring stuff.

I live in Virginia now, so I am learning all kinds of new things - such as being able to buy beer and wine along with bread and toothpaste. Wow!

Having been born and raised in England, I do possess a well-developed feel for the English countryside. Comes in handy for those Regency tales.
Even though I was transplanted over to the US side of the Atlantic, I still have ties to all things Brit. I bake sausage rolls and make Christmas pudding. You can take the girl out of England, but not England out of the girl, I guess.

I'm not sure anyone can write really well unless they read. A lot. I read anything and everything these days. And mostly on my couch with a book on my knees. Yes, the technology is out there for electronic versions, but there's not much to compare with a shiny new hardcover from a favorite author.

'Visions of Mistletoe' was a surprisingly great read; the story of two lost people coming together during the Christmas season was well-written and magical. Magical in that there was actual Celtic and gypsy magic flowing throughout the story. I loved the H/h - Michael and Ariadne - who were both gorgeous and kind (of course - lol), but poor, cast aside, and part gypsy.* I loved the other characters too. They all made for a well-rounded cast. (And Ariadne's name has literal meaning here, mythologically speaking).
This is a wonderful book... it's one I could read every holiday season!

* I know that the term gypsy is problematic- leaning towards derogatory - much like colored and 'Oriental' is today. I only used the word here in context to the book, as the characters used the term in regards to themselves, and it was acceptable during the Regency period. I believe the correct words used today are Rom, Roma, and Romani. If I'm wrong, please correct me here. :)

Dispossessed, humiliated and cast out of what had been his home Michael wanders aimlessly until a strange experience sets him on his way to his future. Michael and Ariadne had several things in common, they knew rejection well, they were sensitive to the unknown and needed to feel loved. He was made for her and she was for him. Together they felt whole. An interesting, entertaining adventure where the protagonists were closer to each other on their search for the mystery surrounding Michael. Suspense, good emotions, romance, amusing situations, passion, family and good intentions. An interesting, emotional and magical story Ridlington style.

This is a sweet, romantic and entertaining story. When Michael's father learns that he did not sire Michael, he throws him out and tells him that he's not allowed to keep using his name. Not knowing what to do, where to go or what name he should use, Michael just wanders. Then one day he finds himself dragged into a tent to get out of the snow. While in the tent, the gypsy insists on telling him his future. When he looks at a mirror while in the tent, he sees a woman, a woman he suddenly lusts after. He's told to go up the road to a certain house where he might get a meal and warm bed. Ariande catches a quick glipse of a man while looking at her mirror. A man that shows up at her house a little while later. Michael is told by a voice to go find his name, and after looking into a crystal ball and her seeing a compass, they set off to find his family together. What happens along the way, and when they find his family, shocks everyone. It's a tale that weaves premonition, intuition and belief together to make one family's Christmas vety special.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

Magical regency. Though magic helps them see, they are instantly drawn. I like that they are both regular people with realistic issues and frank. Enjoyed my curious ride on a magical journey with these practical characters. Full of the Ridlington humor which is an added bonus. Such a heartwarming and welcoming family of "society misfits". I received a free copy via Candid Book Reviews and am voluntarily reviewing.

This is a good Regency romance novella, with a likable couple. It is not really a part of the Ridlington Romance series, but is related. It can be read standalone, but you will enjoy it more if you have read the Ridlington Series first. This one gets 4 stars from me.

For those who care, this book does contain sex outside of marriage, It is not all that explicit, but it might still bother anyone who prefers clean romances.

I really liked both Michael and Ariadne in this story. They were both damaged by their pasts, so they understood each other's pain, and were really good together. I also liked their connection to the Ridlington family, and how they were so easily welcomed.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

This is an enjoyable quick read, perfect for Christmas. Ms. Kelly always manages to find a new twist to her Regency books and this one is no exception.

Michael FitzDoone has been kicked out of his childhood home after his father discovers the truth about his parentage. While wandering the countryside, he comes across a country fair and a gypsy woman who appears eager to tell his fortune. After seeing a beautiful woman in a mirror, the gypsy tells him about a place he can get his horse attended to and possibly a place to get a hot meal.

Ariadne Wilton is thought to be a whore because she has a young son and no husband. When Michael appears at her doorstep, it seems like something has brought them together. Both of them seem to be sensitive to things that are not of this world and they are immediately drawn to each other. Michael hears his Irish mother's voice tell him to find his father and the two set out to do just that.

I enjoyed this short story, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had previously read some of the other books in the Ridlington series. When Michael finds his new family, it was a little difficult to keep track of all the characters that were introduced very rapidly. But, all in all, if you enjoy Regency romance with a touch of magic, this is a good read.

A beautiful story by Sahara Kelly.
The magic of mistletoe just may bring two lost souls together and perhaps even give one a true family. I loved this book it was magical and such a lovely romance. Michael has been toss from the only home he knew because he was not sired by the man he knew as father. Ariadne has been cast as a whore with no real hope of true happiness. These characters were awesome in fact I love all the Ridlington. If you want a bit of wonderful magic in your life then this is the book to pick up I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Part of the A Ridlington Christmas Novella series a short well written story that once I started I was not putting down until I finished reading. Michael FitzDoone gets caught in a snow storm and seeks shelter in a fortune tellers tent. While there the woman gives him a reading and he sees woman in a mirror while he is waiting for her to get her crystal ball out of the backroom. He is told where he can find a room and food, when he meets Ariadne Wilton he realizes she was the woman in the mirror. They will go through so much together as they try to find out who he really is. I enjoyed this story and want to read more in this series. I received an Arc and I am voluntarily reviewing.

Magic like happenings and Mistletoe

Ariadne and Micheal O’Donnell are an unlikely pair, yet when they meet it happens for them.
She is living in a falling down home in the middle of nowhere with2 servants and her young son.
Micheal is homeless, penniless and titleless. He stops in a tent at a fair to warm up and meets someone who encourages him.
This is my first Ridlington story, it won’t be my last as I intended to catch up.
I would definitely recommend this book and series if you like love, hope and a little bit of magical feelings thrown in.

I love the Ridlington's, their family is a very unusual one. There is always an excellent story. This is the tale of Michael O'Donnell AKA Fitzdoone AKA Wynstanley. Poor Michael the who raised him was o'Donnell but when he married a second time and got a son. He threw out Michael told him not to come back and don't use his name. Michael went to England and used the name Fitzdoone because it said exactly what he was a bastard, a nobody. He was traveling alone and his horse had a sore foot and he looked for a town hopefully with a blacksmith. There was a fair going on, he met a fortune teller. One of the things she told him was where to get his horse fixed and there was a house down the way that would probably feed him and help with his horse. At the house, he met Ariadne Wilton.
It felt as though he had known her all his life. She had been born to be his as he was born to be hers.
A wonderful and happy book but with problems. It is well-written, reads easily, and flows smoothly.
What a great array of characters, they are so engaging and warm. It does get a little sexy.
I received this from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

Not usually a fan of novellas but I think Sahara Kelly writes really satisfying ones. I usually don’t like them because it is always instalove because it has to be quick, and they are often not believable and there is not enough conflict and resolution to be a satisfying story.

This had two lovely leads in Ariadne and Michael, and a lovely revisit to the Ridlington pearls.
