Fire and Ice: A Short Story

Rate this book
Theona is attracted to dominant men.  She likes when a man knows what he wants and takes it.  Will wants Theona and will do what is necessary to have her.  But is it love, or manipulation?

Excerpt:

She had nearly forgotten her aggravation with Will Wilson when she found him leaning against her car holding another bouquet of Fire and Ice roses.  She paused long enough to register lingering attraction, then turned around to lock up the store.

Facing him again, she couldn’t seem to summon the anger she once had.  “I should be mad at you,” she began.  “When did you get back in town?”

He looked at her appraisingly.  “Should be... does that mean you’re not?”

Theona walked toward him.  “I was.  Quite a bit actually.  You over stepped, Will.”  She tried to ignore the sculpted muscle visible in the open neck of his button down.

“I brought you a peace offering,” he said, holding out the flowers.

“Why do you choose these?” she couldn’t help asking as she accepted them.  “There must be others easier to come by.”

“I don’t mind a little effort to get what I want.”  His penetrating stare made it clear he wasn’t just talking about the flowers.  “And they remind me of you.”

“Oh?  How does a rose remind you of me?” she asked, intrigued.

He stepped closer, until the flowers were all that separated them.  “They are the perfect blend of virtue and passion.”

“I’m not so virtuous,” she breathed, tilting her face toward his.

Will grinned down at her.  “There is a difference between having virtue and being chaste.”

Their lips were a whisper apart, neither making the move to join them.

“I’ve made dinner.  It’s waiting at my place.”  He announced this with the complete confidence she would accept.

I'm a retired stay at home mom and happy empty nester. I spend my morning walks dreaming up short story ideas, but despite my carefully laid plans, my characters always manage to change things up! I've learned to pay attention to them though, they're usually right.

Another great short from Nannette Kreitzman. I thought this was going to be a sweet love story, but Kreitzman crafted a clever twist, flipping it into a much darker tale. Easy to read (not that I wanted to stop at any point because I was definitely hooked) flowing dialogue and just enough description to flesh out the background while keeping the plot on a good simmer. I love Nannette's style and always enjoy her shorts.

A Tense and Sexy Short Story

I’m usually not a fan of the Romance genre, though I did enjoy “Fire and Ice” by Nannette Kreitzman. There was a lot packed into this short story. It was fast paced, exciting, and sexy with tension weaved throughout.

My criticism for this story is the same criticism that I have for most Romance stories (that I’ve read), which is a reliance on stereotypes such as the overbearing, controlling rich man, or the woman who is too lovestruck to see the red flags directly in front of her. That being said, these characters (and the overall plot) were still interesting and compelling enough to allow me to be genuinely entertained by this short story while wishing there was more of it to read. I would definitely recommend “Fire and Ice" to lovers of the Romance genre.

Vivid writing, which moved me as a reader. Nannette Kreitzman knows and shows unique details of courtship and romance. She’s not shy of showing heartbreak, either. I enjoyed that she consistently showed these strongly defined characters in the midst of change.

The only drawback for me? I’m squeamish about male violence being visited on women.

She had a weakness for guys who took control.

Fire and Ice by Nannette Kreitzman is a superb, well written story about a woman who falls in love with the wrong man. It's cleverly written, pacey and the characters are believable. My only fault with it was that it wasn't long enough. Nannette is such a talented writer that I think she needs to treat us to a full length novel.

A fast-paced and exciting short story. I had to read it straight through once I started. From the very first pages, I fell in love with the Greek ambiance surrounding the main character Theona. That was unexpected and so heartwarming. "Fire and Ice" is an excellent story masterfully exposing an iron fist in a velvet glove. Great job!

This story touched a personal nerve with me. Theona loves her evenings out dancing with her friends and it takes her mind off her struggling boutique. Then she meets a man. Despite her reluctance to form an attachment to him, he persists and Theona wonders if she has finally met The One.

But do we ever know what goes on inside the mind of another person? Harrowing and thought-provoking, this tale acts as a cautionary warning to trust your instincts and never lose sight of who you are.

Manipulation and Desire

Theona loves to dance and goes to the club to blow off steam. When a man saves her from an uncomfortable situation she finds herself drawn to him. But she doesnt have time to date, needing to focus on her business. So when business picks up due to an ad she didnt pay for, she starts a whirling romance that takes some surprising turns.

Once again Nannette proves that you dont need a full novel to tell a gripping story. Amazing.

All I have to say about this one is WoW!
In the course of an hour, which is all it takes to read this short story, I laughed, I was swept off my feet and was totally horrified. This sweet looking little book has a dark edge that keeps you on your toes right to the very end. I'm not going to say too much more other than it's not what I thought it was going to be and I loved it!

Fire and Ice is a short story that I just adored. It was a quick and thrilling little story, not to mention super sexy. It just had the feel of the kind of romance that will sweep the reader off their feet along with the characters. It also had a darker side, an evil side, a crack in the veneer of a perfect relationship. It's just a straight to the point short story that will stick with you.
