Cut Jones knows Samson from his work, but not really. He knows he’s got money, that he likes his whiskey sours extra sweet, but that’s where his knowledge ends. Samson’s come into the bar every few days for a year but has hardly said more than five words at a time, but Cut didn’t mind. Samson was out of his league. So imagine his surprise when Samson asks for his help with a very personal issue.
The pressures of owning his own company and the expectations of his father had Samson Ba walking a razor’s edge. It was only a matter of time before he tried to find a release, but when he does it’s in the worst way. And he’s found by the last person he wanted to see him this way. But things aren’t all bad. Cut offers to help him relieve his stress, and Samson’s sure he’s just being nice, but some opportunities are too good to pass up.
Stories longing to have words put to them were in Jet’s heart from an early age. Jet enjoys exploring the connections and similarities between people whether they be shifters, vampires, or aliens, rendering the unknowable very knowable indeed.
Jet’s days are spent toiling away at a keyboard, slumped over a pen and paper hunting for those words, or playing around on twitter with a partner, and two rambunctious cats for company in the temperamental North East of the US.
That was surprisingly original! A small, handsome broke guy and a big, fancy suit costumer. Every night Samson sits at the bar and takes the same drink, looking constantly at Cut. When one night, outside work, Cut finds Samson in a situation that screams for help.
Samson is rich with exhausting responsibilities and is in need of care and of someone who takes charge. Cut offers him his.
They start with BDSM scenes and Samson wants Cut near al the time. Samson takes care of Cut in all the possible ways. Samson’s father and brother are not amused. With the power and knowledge of his father as he tries to separate them and take Samson back in his claws.
I loved this story especially where it’s all about Cut and Samson, both men are reliable, mature and lovable. The use of the sci-fi environments didn’t work for me, I really could do without that part, most of the time I wasn’t even aware of it. The BDSM parts are nicely done. The flow was good. The story had a consistency that made it all convincing. For my fun, it could have had more romance, but hey, that’s me.
Served with a Twist offers readers something of a mixed bag. There’s a sweet romance between a rich businessman and a down-and-out bartender, mixed with business intrigue and cut throat family tensions. But on the other hand, the book suffers from pacing issues and a lack of development. Let’s start with the positives first.
Samson and Cut are a cute couple and they thrive in spite of the challenges they face. Samson’s struggle to accept what he needs from Cut, while finding the strength to stand up to his father, make him a compelling character. Cut isn’t exactly a charmer, but his devotion to Samson’s care, almost in spite of himself, is engaging. But both of these characters lack real development. Even though we’re given information regarding their backgrounds, I never felt like I “knew” either of them or understood who they really were.
this was really good.. a good story and characters.. it had some spots that were super hard to read... some not entirely sure if it was good or bad but i really enjoyed it. i enjoy more of a tabooish type of writing though so for me it was wonderful. i enjoyed how dark it got in spots also. very good story!
Cut is a bartender who has a secret crush on one of his patrons. When he accidentally helps the guy he's interested in and makes an almost impossible to refuse offer, slowly everything starts to change. Acquaintance with Samson turns out to make the man's life easier and harder at the same time, but above all, makes it more interesting and valuable. By getting to know each other, Samson and Cut are slowly getting to know themselves better and their relations are evolving. Unfortunately, there are problems they must face that may threaten their new born relationship.
"Served with a Twist" is the volume that opens a new series by Jet Lupin entitled "Dome Stories". The first thing I would like to mention reviewing this book is the universe in which the story is set. I admit that I really like the fact that "Served with a Twist" is a science fiction novel because I rarely read this type of books. However, sometimes I feel that I need to broaden my reading horizons, and that's how it was this time. It is definitely worth noting that Jet Lupin introduces the subject of space and technology in a noticeable but rather subtle way, thanks to which the reader, who begins their adventure with this book, doesn't get lost in the presented world, they aren't overwhelmed by it. Nevertheless, the construction of the universe in this novel is very limited, rather minimal, and therefore not entirely satisfying. So to tell the truth, when reading, I missed a little more detailed and extensive descriptions of the world, its history, pros and cons.
While the novel loses some points for the creation of the universe, it quickly makes up for them with a multitude of raised themes. In "Served with a Twist" we find both more and less important problems, more and less serious ones, and those which are more or less detailed. In short, the story presented here has a depth that we discover from the beginning to the end. For example, let's look at Samson, who is a rich restaurant owner. At first glance, he lacks nothing, and yet his life is far from perfect. On the one hand, there is the problem of his difficult family relationship that is a reason behind his low self-esteem. On the other hand, we see the topic of work that is linked to the themes of family, overwork, responsibility. And all this affects Samson's passion for the D/s relationship and his need for total submission to someone. Believe me, it's just a small number of subjects that appear in this novel and relate to this character. To fully appreciate the depth that we find in "Served with a Twist" we would have to analyze this book chapter by chapter.
However, the topics raised in the novel are not all, because the very story that Jet Lupin tells us in this book is also worth mentioning. "Served with a Twist" is a really interesting book that develops on many different levels. On the one hand, Samson and Cut's story is built on an emotional plane, which affects both men separately. At some point, it's also enriched by the feelings that connect the two characters, which allows to add another plane to the creation of this novel. Then, we see that "Served with a Twist" develops also in terms of physical pleasure, in other words sex. All this is enriched with some problems that Samson and Cut have to face, which surely make their story even more interesting. I have no doubt that reading this book no one would be bored.
Finally, I would like to write a few words about the characters. Cut and Samson are undoubtedly a very interesting duo, because thanks to the fact that at first glance they don't seem to be the best match, following their story we have the opportunity to see that they are in fact the perfect combination. To tell the truth, it's all the more interesting because they also step by step discover that they are made for each other. But the fact that together they are the great advantage of the novel is not all. Cut and Samson are also the very valuable characters as individuals. And in this case their differences turn out to be very significant, because it is thanks to them that we fully feel that we are reading the novel about two separate, completely different from each other characters, and not some clones, whose only difference is the passion for domination or submission. Thus, in terms of character creation, Jet Lupine did really great.
To sum up, "Served with a Twist" is a really interesting and good novel, which draws the reader in and allows them to fully enjoy the insight into the complex psyche of the characters, their love story, ways in which they overcome the problems. In short, it is a novel about life that is really worth reading, because we can easily notice that the characters' problems are not so different from those we face every day.

„Served with a Twist” to tomik otwierająca nową serię autorstwa Jet Lupin zatytułowaną „Dome Stories”.
Aby w pełni docenić głębię, jaką możemy znaleźć w „Served with a Twist” musielibyśmy analizować tę książkę rozdział po rozdziale.
The first word that comes to mind with this book was interesting. Not in a bad way, please don't think that. It is one of those things that I had to think about it for a little bit. The story is good and original, however, there were some parts that left me scratching my head. Take that out, and I loved it. Great characters and the relationship between Cut and Samson was amazing. I really liked their chemistry, and this read was full of heat, angst, and emotion. If you like MM BDSM, this is the book for you. 4 stars and I recommend you one-click this book today!
This was an interesting read for me. Cut is has been working at a nightclub under the dome for a while. For all that time he’s been watching one of the customers. He doesn’t know much about him, but he likes what he sees. Just about the time that Cut seems to think that nothing is going to happen, he runs across the same customer in an alley in what looks like a sexual assault.
It isn’t a sexual assault... it’s a sexual encounter that got a bit out of hand. Cut senses something in the man he sees in the alley that night.... something that he may be able to help with. It was a little unclear what the full extent of the offer might be...but it’s clearly sexual.
Eventually, the customer... Samson... approaches Cut and it becomes clear that they are both interested in each other. They enter into a tentative agreement to meet up - which means they are going to enter into a D/s partnership casually.
From the research I’ve done, I would say that this isn’t a terribly accurate representation of a D/s relationship, but then again that is a community of folks that lives a variety of lifestyles. Cut is unfamiliar with the world of dominance and submission when he realizes that is what Samson is looking for. He reads some books... and consults a friend and then begins a relationship.
It seemed a bit of a reach for me that someone could read a couple of books about bdsm and feel that they were educated enough to enter into an agreement with someone... but I suppose it’s not completely inconceivable. Wondering about whether this was a truly healthy D/s relationship did distract me a bit from the plot though.
A large part of this novel is about trust. There is the fragile trust that develops between Samson and Cut. There is the utter lack of trust that exists in Samson’s family... his wealthy father and playboy brother seem willing to do anything to bring Samson in line. I was curious how Samson manages to put so much of his trust in Cut so quickly after they become personally acquainted. It would have been interesting if that had been explored further.
There are some very interesting thoughts brought into the novel that I would have liked to have seen the author explore even more. There is talk about extensive genetic engineering and while Samson reveals his insecurities about being engineered himself, I felt as though it was mostly unexplored territory. I was left with more questions about the process and what it would be like to grow up knowing that your genetic structure had been chosen for you.
There is a bit of sub plot going on. As Samson and Cut become closer, it seems to rub Samson’s father the wrong way. I’m not entirely clear on why they were so against him, although it seemed to be primarily because he came from a different class. People have certainly made harsher judgments based on less than that.
This was a pleasant read. It was nice to get to know the main characters but I couldn’t help feeing that there was so much more I didn’t get to read about.
This is a sweet love story, with a bitter family rejection, Secrets that come out. It is also a story about two characters that need what the other can give in a D/S relationship. Add a race against the clock for Samsons freedom from his controlling Father, and you have enough ingredients to write a series never mind one novel.
So, we meet Cut who emigrated from earth, looking for a better life, whilst ending up working the bar at a small club. He has an eye on a regular who comes in dressed smart and clean.
We also have Samson, who is a successful businessman, who makes decisions all day, and needs to give up control to someone for a while. To stop him from sinking under the stress.
Cut walks down a dark ally and stumbles upon his secret crush, being abused. Only to find out that it was a consenting bdsm scene that got out of hand.
Determined to save Samson from himself, Cut takes control of the situation and becomes Samson Dom. Initially as a business deal.
Thinks soon develop and they become friends and lovers. Giving each other what they need.
It is interesting watching Cut learning to be the Dom Samson needs as they go along, and finding out he enjoys his role as a Dom.
Samson is no push over or indecisive person, he just needs time out from the pressures of his life.
When Samsons Father tries to break them up and force Samson into a arranged marriage, things heat up. The begin a race against the clock to break free from Samsons Father and his controlling and devious ways.
I loved the dynamics between the two characters, and just wanted to hold Samson in my arms. The D/s scenes were well written and quite tender in a BDSM way. The controlling father and his antics were real, and I was rooting for Samson and Cut to break free. All in all, the book is one that you always want to read just one more page.
I have to say that I REALLY loved this book! I'm a fan of sci-fi, and there is just enough solid sci-fi world building in this to keep me really happy. It seems like this will be a series, set in this universe, and I can't wait to see more of it.
Cut and Samson couldn't seem more different from a superficial glance -- but it's those differences that make things interesting. Samson is a big guy, but he's so soft and sweet and shy -- I'm a sucker for big guys portrayed like that. But he isn't a total pushover; he's a high powered executive and can run a boardroom... he just likes the tables turned a bit outside of the business setting.
Cut has a streak of adventurousness in him that helps his path cross with Samson's in the first place. He's clever, assertive, protective. And it seems as soon as these two really start interacting, they can't get enough of each other.
There are a variety of side characters that I definitely want to know more about. Some of them I didn't like in the beginning, but Jet made me come around on them by the end. And there's plenty of family drama. Samson's relatives make things a bit difficult for any budding relationship between him and someone his family sees as absolutely below his class.
There's also an interesting bit of ethics around genetics in here that I definitely wouldn't mind exploring more.
Again, this says it's the first of a series, and so I'm hopeful for more exploration of these characters and this universe. Jet isn't the type to show their entire hand in the first book -- but it's definitely worth the ride.
I love surprises. Not to be confused with jump scares, adrenaline rushes, and things of that nature. Good surprises like picking up a book, thinking you are getting a nice little romance with a bit of kink tossed in to spice it up only to find you've opened a book filled with a whole lot more than just a sweet little love story.
I think the Universe is trying to broaden my horizons more. This is the second sci-fi book I have read so far this year, and we are just in January.
There are a whole lot of different things going on all around the story of our MCs, Cut, an earth born bartender who now lives in the Dome and Samson a first generation colonist who came from money and was now a business owner of restaurants and food take-away boxes.
As the two are working around the dynamics of their budding D/s relationship, things within the Dome affecting the energy and how long businesses can be open and people out of their homes causes a few problems regarding curfews and that dips into Cut's job as a bartender.
A story set in the future, about two guys who are not what they seem. I found the basis of the story interesting, although I did find that the writing style, unfortunately, didn't really suit me, I found it a little hard to follow in places. However, both MCs were believable together, I liked the way in which they adapted to become what each other desired. There is some angst, but not so much that the story became enveloped in it. If you like sci-fi, with a twist, you'll likely enjoy this one.
This is a new to me author. It was an interesting take on an alternate world. I really enjoyed the characters complexities and learning how to navigate a D/s relationship. Sampson kind of broke my heart, his family was so unhealthy. I love how supportive Cut was of him and helped him fight for his independence. There was a good cast of secondary characters and I can't wait to continue discovering more of this world.
