The series is over-but Haruhi-chan's antics will never be!
Fueled by her now-legendary melancholy, the absurd adventures of Haruhi-chan continue, utterly unbound by the laws of reality! Cozy up under the kotatsu with Haruhi-chan and the Brigade-for as looong as you like. Take flight with Haruhi the superhero as she swoops in to save the day...on her own terms! Bask in the obligatory swimsuit chapter! All leading up to the final chapter! And the final chapter! And the stunning Final Chapter!!!
Nagaru Tanigawa is a graduate of the Kwansei Gakuin University School of Law. In 2003, he won Kadokawa's Grand Prize for Literary World for his work on the Haruhi Suzumiya series.
The Adult Haruhi art on the back may have just changed my brain chemistry. I never realised that was something I needed to see... Woah
The final volume for this gag series and the last piece of Haruhi I have to read until the new light novel volume comes out. For the most part it's a decent final volume with a lot of love put into it
For starters this series developing the bond between Mikuru and Nagato more than the original series is unexpected but welcome. I like that they have a mobile game that they can connect with and bond over. The valentines chocolate story was also quite funny.
Kyon and Haruhi fighting over who has to shut the door is classic Kyon and Haruhi shenanigans which we love to see. Also a Zombie apocalypse Haruhi story where Kyon is the only one who gets chased by a zombie is objectively Hilarious and absolutely something Haruhi would do.
Seeing a College Haruhi story in the flesh after being teased so much about it in the light novels was definitely worth getting through this series. It's about the same as what we get in Surprise but we do get more of a hint as to what the dynamic is between Kyon and Haruhi post high school and it does somewhat confirm they are the only two to move to the same college.
The final chapter is actually surprisingly amazing it doesn't cater too much to fanservice. There's a fun 4th wall element where everything everyone says is very dramatic end of the world tropey hence why Kyon realises it's the end. I also like how the ending is a callback to Melancholy and this time Haruhi finally gets to play with a supernatural entity, it's bitter sweet and surprisingly cathartic. I especially love how Kyon encourages her. In the end it's about maintaining and controlling Haruhis spirit not diminishing it completely.
Overall a fun gag series that has its moments but doesn't do much to go beyond it's premise. More respectful to these characters compared to the Nagato Yuki-chan manga that's for sure.
