Hmmm... I didn't get to work out exactly what gap in the market this was aiming at. Its large format (a foot tall, so roughly A4) and excellent pictorial standard make it a coffee table book, but the text is what makes its audience hard to define. Family-friendly, it labours a lot of the taxonomy in order to list loads of shark species, so it won't succeed with all ages drawn to it by those photos. Yet other areas of the script are almost too chatty in comparison. Also, it tries to do things that just should not be done – at one point it talks of sharks eating their teeth (??) only for me to find it was first explained in a box-out I'd been leaving, as I do with all box-outs, to the end. So don't put vital bits of the flow of information into a separate, coloured block when they need to be part of the main text.

FYI, the trivia was relating to how some sharks choose to ingest their own broken-off teeth. That level of detail is going to be the selling point if the images aren't, for this is quite all-encompassing. But it is a little uneven with it.

One of the best Handbooks about Sharks that I have ever read so far.

Uno dei migliori manuali sugli squali che abbia letto fino ad ora.

I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
