This is a synopsis of Les Miserables for those of us who haven't read the book, yet wanted to have a handle before seeing the movie. I don't think it's needed but its a great book for a good overview, understanding of the characters and the storyline. Much better than the 'cliff' notes since they are usually more focused on symbolism, etc. I would recommend this version if anyone needs a little clearer understanding and isn't ready to tackle a 1400 page behometh.

This Maxnotes study guide is based on the 1961 abridged James K. Robinson version of Les Miserables. If you are reading the unabridged version of Les Miserables, many parts of the book will not be mentioned in this guide.
For a student reading the abridged version for school, this guide would aid them in keeping the characters of the story straight, and also help them review the basic plot of the book.
