Rate this book
This part of UGE deals with the major word classes in English viz. verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and with the main types of word formation and idioms. The respective authors are R. Dirven (Duisburg), W. Welte (Hamburg), Y. Putseys (Brussels), A. Vermeire (Ghent), D. Kastovsky (Vienna), and E. Roos (Paderborn). In each of these six chapters the phonological and morphological rules of the various word classes and types of word formation and idioms are discussed in detail and the various syntactic and / or semantic subclasses of English words and phrases are surveyed. Thus a fully comprehensible description of presentday English morphology in an easily accessible form is aimed at.
