I first used The Beaver by Margaret Lane while teaching in Oregon because the beaver was a common animal on the stream close to the school where I was teaching. The science facts were just what I needed to give the children a better understanding of an animal in our area; we could see a beaver lodge in the creek on our nature walks. It is nice to find a science fact book about an animal in your environment. The illustrations are attractive and fit the text and are accurate.
