For more than one hundred years, Madison Street United Methodist Church in Clarksville, Tennessee, has been part of the fabric of its members’ lives, and indeed, of the life of its community. It witnessed births, baptisms, marriages, and funerals. It experienced physical expansion, leadership changes, membership growth, and societal shifts. It seemed a permanent fixture, one that nothing could impact. On January 22, 1999, church leaders and members were stunned to discover than an early morning tornado had leveled Madison Street’s historic church building. But the tornado couldn’t destroy the true heart and core of the church.
