The fourth edition of this classic text/reference (first published in 1970) was commissioned by the publisher because of the great success of the third edition (1986). Over one quarter of the chapters are completely new; for the rest, the authors have updated the material in their previous chapters to incorporate all the latest advances. The continuing purpose is to bridge the gap between laboratory workers and clinicians in the field. The 62 chapters are organized into ten general; female genital structure and function; physiology in relation to pregnancy and labor; ovum and fetus; the child; nutrition, endocrinology, and metabolism; the blood and blood pressure; microbiology; methods of diagnosis and treatment; and psychological and social and epidemiological aspects.
