Is an Alpha wolf without a pack still an Alpha?

Deep in the swamps of Louisiana, Francisco Meyer leads the Whiskey Chitto Wolfpack. His wife, Regina, is pregnant, and the pack prepares a great celebration for the coming Alpha and heir to the pack. Tragedy strikes and Regina miscarries the child. After many years of trying, she is unable to conceive again. She pleads with her husband to take a second wife to produce an heir. The pack's survival depends upon it.

When rival packs begin to test Frank's authority of the pack, he gives in to his wife's request. Instead of taking another wife, he makes a deal with a fairy woman who assures him a male heir and protection for his pack. He makes the deal on behalf of the pack. She bares him a son, Dominick.

The pack is unhappy about the deal that Frank made with the fairy woman, however, with pressure from the other packs, they reluctantly accept Dominick as the next Alpha.

This is the story of Dominick Meyer who ended up as a knight of the Queen of the Winter in Shady Grove, Alabama. His journey begins as a Wayward Son.

Wayward Son is the prequel to the Dog River Wolfpack Series, which is a spin-off of the Fairy Tales of a Trailer Park Queen Series.

Never done before

I have never craved a novella like I have Wayward Son.
In the span of a mini book Kimbra Swain sucked me and held me COMPLETELY.
I WAS SHOOK.

There were so many tie ins to the original series that this felt just like a continuation of FTOATPQ.
I cannot believe the gems and the AMAZING and TALENTED way that Kimbra expands her mind and her world. I am reeling.
It’s so deep, the trail verse we have now is just the tip of an iceberg and Wayward Son took us deeper under water.
Dominick, Sully and his pack made this my favorite book Kimbra has written to date.
I want to be apart of the Houma Pack and their family!
I have never felt such desire to read the next book before.
This prequel was the best prequel to any series I have ever read.
I wasn’t sure but I know this now- this series is going to have me thrown back into the Trailerverse with such violent force even the novella gave me a book hangover.
I cannot wait for the next book and I honestly might buy this novella on paperback if it becomes available.
This. Is. Groundbreaking.

Another home run

This was just a prequel??!! Oh my! I can’t wait for the first in the series.

For those of you who have read the Fairy Tales of a Trailer Park Queen books, you have already met the lead character Dominique. For those of you who haven’t become obsessed by Grace and her court (why), you can start here but I recommend getting the entire series and First Flame as well.

Kimbra Swain has knocked it out of the park AGAIN! How does she do this? I loved this story about Nick’s beginnings. I knew I liked him but now I lobe him! (I like him because he is so sweet! He is a “nice” southern gentleman with just the right snark.

Mystery, supernatural, Louisiana, wolves, fairies, family, friends, loyalty and love and just a few of the things you will find in this book. I highly recommend you read it!

DNF - quit in chapter 8 of the 14.
Not sure what this story was really supposed to be about, since it didn’t really make sense to me. I didn’t like the characters or the plot, or the plot in general. Nothing about it spoke to me or made me want to learn more about what’s going on with them. Also, a lot of the actions/emotions of the characters contradicted the story -enough to pull me out enough to want to quit.

At my age (approaching 60), life is way to short & my time is to important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

This prequel takes us outside of the Trailerverse into the History of my favorite wolf, Nick (Dominick). The author relived the things, decisions and people that brought him to Shady Grove. He lived thru an abusive, Alpha father, A fairy Mother with alterior motives and being a lone wolf with no pack being tailed by those wanting to kill him. While that might make this book seem simple, It is anything but. Once you start this prequel you will always want more. If you have read any of Kimbra's books then you understand this is no typical Author and her books are anything but simple. Do yourself a favor...buy this book. ♡

*Spoiler Alert*
I really enjoyed this book more than I thought. And I feel like the overall series is coming full circle because the trafficking of fairies had been going on with the Grace books as well. I liked how the author gave us a complete back story on Dominick. I am very intrigued with how the ending of this book went and am wondering what's going to happen next.
4 stars because it was only 88 pages, this is more like a novella not a book, some grammatical errors, you can tell that the book was rushed in the way that it was written and she's doing that thing again where the conversation is between 2 people but you aren't sure who's talking when.
Nevertheless read the book.

I'll admit that I wasn't as excited for this book as I was for First Flame, simply because the Dominick character didn't resonate with me like Winnie did.

Boy was I wrong. This book kicked me in the butt, shoved my face in and forced me to read and I loved every minute! I'm now firmly invested in the Dog River Wolfpack series, and I'm chomping at the bit to read more. This is not only an excellent book all on its own, but it's a fantastic addition to the world Kimbra Swain has already built.

This novella gives readers Nick's backstory and takes you right up to his arrival in Shady Grove from the FTOATPQ series. It explains so much about why he is the way he is. I love the way this series is going to run on the same timeline as Winnie's series. There were some major shocks revealed as well. There is a large cast of interesting characters. This one wets the readers appetite and is a great lead up to Bad Moon Rising, Book One of Nick's series. I can't wait for the rest of Nick's journey.

I dont even know where to begin. My reviews for Kimbra Swain are starting to sound exactly the same... EVERYTHING SHE WRITES IS AWESOME!!!! Wayward Son was no exception. In fact, as crazy obsessed as I was about her Trailer Park series...I AM MORE OBSESSED WITH HER DOG RIVER SERIES!!!! My mind was blown, once again, by how Kimbra makes everything (from as far back as all her other series!) connect. This was truly exceptional. I cannot wait for more words. I need the next book ASAP.

A must read if you loved the trailerverse

This is the story of one of the characters in the Trailer Park series. I love the way it fills in the back story & let's you get to know him better. This book can stand alone even if you haven't read the previous series. I highly recommend this book and this author. Once you start reading a Kimbra book you are hooked on her fantastic writing style.

If you have read the author's Fairy Tales of a Trailer Park Queen series, you will have met Nick. I confess that he is one of my favourite characters - handsome, direct, loyal. This novella reveals something of Nick's background and what made him so compellingly different as a lone wolf. It's just as enjoyable as "Bless Your Heart", with less vulgarity. Mind you, Grace is not a character in this book so less vulgarity is to be expected.

Nick, or Dominick as he is more formally known, is a werewolf and fairy. Readers may be familiar with him from Fairy Tales of a Trailer Park Queen series, but if not, this book is a great way to start.

This novella gives readers insight into his life and can be a standalone introduction to a wonderful character.

I read an advanced copy of this book and have chosen to review it.

Well Damn!

This is one of the best prequel novels that I have ever read! We got a lot of backstory that we needed for a main character, and we got some new characters introduced. I am looking forward to seeing where this seried goes. Thank you Kimbra, for writing this and whetting our appetite for more.

There's only one problem...

The book ends. I need more Nick, ASAP. He has a rough past, made friends, made enemies, but still came out a good man. Stories like this add depth to characters, especially well-done and well-written ones, as Kimbra always provides us. I cannot wait for more!

This is a great prequel/origin story. It was fun to see Dominick's beginnings and formative years, shaping him into the character we know now. Story had a couple of reveals, too, which is uncommon in many prequels. An entertaining read.

Everyone has an origin story and this is Nick’s. A wonderful look at what has made our favorite not-alpha-alpha into the man, wolf, we know and love. If you don’t want to know more about Nick and see where his adventures lead after reading this... we can’t be friends.

Disjointed

It starts flowing well for a bit with good dialogue and next it jumps forward into another scene. I wish it had elaborated on many parts of the story instead of glazing over them. Just too short and not enough substance to make it interesting

Haven’t Decided

Was a good lead into the series but haven’t decided if it has hooked me. Has nudged my interest so will probably read the next book. Hoping for the best because I have enjoyed reading this author’s quirky style in the past.

Nice backstory for Nick

This definitely explains a lot of Nick's background, that wasn't in the Trailer Park books. Nicely done Kimbra. Can't wait for you more!
