Welcome to Detroit, Michigan, home of the grittiest, illest, most hardcore, crime-infested, and poverty-stricken neighborhoods in the country. It’s sometimes referred to as the Murder Capital because of the huge murder rate that never ceases to surprise us, the Murder Mitten, or the Dirty Glove because of the state’s shape on the U.S. map. Detroit is home to many scholars, rappers, athletes, and concerned citizens, but the streets belong to those in the underworld—addicts, dealers, and the women who help run the show from behind the The Real Hoodwives of Detroit! No, you won’t see these ladies on any television show, but you will see them make appearances in court for their man’s hearing, or at the county jail on visiting day. You might even catch them riding shotgun, with a nine tucked in their Fendi bag, waiting to pop off and protect their men at any cost. And of course, they make appearances in the hood, twenty-four seven, three hundred and sixty-five days of the year. Follow Nikki, Tonya, Chloe, Mina, and Gucci as they ride you through Detroit, one city block at a time. Watch as the tales of the black and dangerous unfold right before your eyes. In Detroit, only the raw and real survive—living to see another day. These streets are known for breaking the weak and leaving them helpless. They aren’t made for everybody. Scared? You should be…WELCOME TO DETROIT!
India Johnson-Williams was born and raised on the cut throat streets of Detroit, MI also known as the Dirty Glove. She attended Wayne State University pursuing a degree in Business Mgmt. She's married and is the proud mother of one. She loves to write urban fiction because it s as close to real as you will ever get. One day she hopes to become a household name and give the game what its been missing.
The streets of Detroit are full of drama and deceit. Mario is the kingpin who rules the streets with an iron fist. Married to his longtime girlfriend Nikki and father of one, he is hated on by many...including his incarcerated partner’s wife Tonya (I hated her from the introduction). She collects money from Mario and lies to (Roscoe), and states that she receives nothing to provide for her and their children (who are mostly with her mother). Meanwhile, her days are spent shopping at the mall, frequenting the hair and nail salon, and also entertaining other men.
Mario’s right hand woman (and former lover) Gucci, will do anything to keep Mario in her good graces and hopefully...back in her bed!
Sam is the youngest man on the team, who is being trained to take over. But, his girlfriend Chloe is definitely not to be trusted!
This is book one of a series, and I haven’t read one like this in a long time! If you have it on your bookshelf or on your kindle carousel, check out this 💎💎💎💎💎 banger by India (the Black Jackie Collins). For those of you that don’t have it, it will be re-releasedin November.
This book was a pretty interesting read although it was sometimes a bit confusing. I don't want to say exactly what parts were confusing because it would give too much away. I just think when you introduce a lot of characters in a book you have to be careful to give the reader a total picture of each character and the events that effect them. There were some situations that happened that were not totally clear. I found myself going back in the book to re-read in order to make a couple of things make sense because several times the transition from situation to situation was not clear. Overall the book was good, it kept my attention and I will definitely be reading other books by India!
I was hearing about this book for a while, but for some reason I had no interest in reading it, but now I'm kicking myself for not reading it sooner. "The Real Hoodwives of Detroit" grabbed my attention from page 1 and I found myself reading it whenever and where ever I could. I enjoyed each character's storyline and liked how they were all connected in some sort of way. There were many points in the book where I was on the edge of my seat and there was even a point that I shed a little tear. I was shocked out the outcome and I can't wait to read part 2. If you are a fan of drama, deceit, lies and betrayal with a touch of urban fiction, I highly recommend this book.
This book is a whole-ass soap opera! I borrowed this from my job because the character descriptions had me very interested. The chapters are only 1-3 pages long so you breeze right through them, but this book really surprised me! I loved how engaging and layered all of the characters are.
As an editor, some things had me cringing-- the first 6 chapters would've been better as a prologue to introduce the characters rather than have them serve as chapters-- but I was really surprised about how much I enjoyed this book. This one does end on a cliffhanger, so I'll be getting Book 2 as an ebook so I can continue the story.
This book was okay. A lot of the plot twists I was able to guess before they even occurred. As far as the characters go: At first I liked the character Gucci, however, as the book progressed she just reminded me of sidechick turned main. But once a side chick always a side chick. I can say that I actually liked the characterization of Nikki. And, I'm really looking forward to book two to see what happens with her. I would say Chloe was a true shocker for me despite how easily I was able to guess the plot twists. I didn't know how I would feel initially about the book due to the many POV's , however, it gives the readers a chance to better understand each character.
Well, well, well... Color me surprised. I had been avoiding a lot of street lit for fear that they'd be full of misspellings, other grammatical errors and lack of cohesion. This was quite the opposite. Twists and turns and an actual plot. The characters are pretty cut and dry if not fully fleshed out. 3.5 stars
I struggled with the editing in the beginning of this, but once the story really got going I was hooked. The audio production was on point, although one of the narrators felt off a bit. Overall this story had everything you could want in drama filled book. I will definitely be moving to book 2
This was such a great book I hated to put it down my first read by this author and I’m already looking for other books she has written..! India did her think so much suspense an the story line is amazing can’t wIt for part 2
My first time reading this author's work and I'm hooked! The storyline is everything and everywhere. But the come together is serious!! Thank you now on to 2.
this was a fun, entertaining, hood read. lots of crazy drama. easy to get caught up in the craziness. beware, there are many characters. book is told from my povs.
This book will take you on the ride with actually three wives, a girlfriend, and a BFF.
Nikki is down for her man Mario. Anything he needs, she is there to give him. They have a marriage made in heaven. Gucci, Mario's BFF, would love to be in Nikki's shoes, but she is content in playing her part as his best friend. But what would Mario do if Nikki was temporarily out the picture? Would be stay true to his vows?
Chloe wants her man Sam to be the HNIC. She wants to live the lavish life so bad, but why? Will her jealousy cause Sam to stray? And if so, with who?
Mina is living in hell. Her man Tre is very abusive. But, when he puts their life in danger, again, will Mina find the strength to leave?
Tonya is a hoodrat, plain and simple. She wants to party and live it up, forgetting she has kids and a husband doing a bid. Will Tonya's ratchet ways be the undoing of her family and herself?
This was a solid read. Kept me turning the pages. There were some unexpected things that happened that left my mouth hanging open. I would recommend this book.
These chicks were something else. I liked how Nikki always held Mario down regardless of the situation. I guess all those months in a coma were her breaking point. Gucci needed some type of guidance but she finally got what she's been wanting for a while. Now when it comes to Tonya, I never liked her lying ass!!! All of her wrongdoings finally caught up with her. Chloe or should I say Robin, I was actually pulling for until I found out who she really was and her reason for all those high demands. As for Mina, I wish her husband had told her from the beginning what her really did instead of constantly putting her life in danger. I'm hoping Mina and Sam finally hook up.
This is for books 1 - 3. This story moved very well. The characters were developed. Chloe was a standout for her treachery. Rio was a disappointment in the husband department. I enjoyed every time Nikki and Chloe met up. The author did a good job of laying out the plot and all the drama that ensued. I am very much looking forward to the second installment. The audio production was well done and only one of the narrators didn't quite fit this story.
Slow book. No real drama kicked off until halfway into the book. And even with half of the book used to set the story and describe the characters, I never felt like I got to know them or connected with any of them. Once the drama did finally kick in, it was unrealistic.
I enjoyed this book. The only issue I have is that it moved to fast and jumped all over the place. Slow it down and tell us a little more about each character. I would really have liked to know more about Roscoe, Tonya, and Chloe/Robin. I still really enjoyed the book.
