Meanwhile, on Asgard, Loki’s much-anticipated rite of passage fast approaches. But first, he must complete three days of trials to prove himself … even as he fights to hide his mounting secrets. How will Loki avoid getting caught by Odin and Frigga, his warrior brother Thor, or even the eye of Heimdall, keeper of Asgard’s gates? Will he keep his promise to his childhood friend Sigyn? Jennifer Meinking is a small business owner who wears many hats, including mama to nine incredible kids. When her oldest children were small, she transitioned from an online boutique to a website optimization business, which she owned and operated until the demand became too great for her growing family. It was not long before she found her entrepreneurial spirit needed an outlet, leading her to start a direct selling business that she still maintains. When her dormant inner author demanded a "seat at the table," she simply scooched over and made a little more room. Often mislabeled a "supermom," Jennifer is merely a doggedly determined woman with an overactive imagination, a thirst for adventure, and a life that is rarely boring. I feel bad because I didn't actually finish this book. I almost made it to the end, but it was so dull I just couldn't. Honestly, there's nothing exciting about the storyline in this book.
For micro issues, there was too much info-dumping with factoids that did nothing to move the plot forward and Loki’s “respect women” schtick only goes so far as waiting until marriage for sex. He’s constantly internally berating Carina and the other women for being annoying and emotional, and yet he’s the picture of feminism and understanding when lecturing Kristoff, which is what most of Kristoff and Loki’s convos were toward the end. For macro issues, like in the first book there’s no real central conflict moving the series forward or a threat to Loki that seems, well, threatening. Every fight/issue is wrapped up in a bow within a chapter and then unwrapped when things are getting slow, the whole the issue with Klaus that keeps getting resolved and unresolved over and over. It’s not even clear why Klaus is so hung up on Carina. Is it supposed to be because her father betrayed him? Wouldn’t that be more of a reason to NOT marry her and just move on? Then Loki’s inner conflict between Asgard and Midgard felt forced from the start so his decision to stay on Midgard seemed obvious. We saw so very little of his life on Asgard, let alone his life there being enjoyable, that there was really no indication he would ever stay. Plus Loki’s so OP to the point of almost being a Mary Sue that no conflict externally is a threat and internally it’s just all Carina all the time so the rest doesn’t matter. Started reading the second book to see if there would be some true tough decision making with Loki about Asgard and Midgard during his trials or something to really test him, but was greatly disappointed. Sadly I don’t think I’ll be picking up the third one.

Well. Did the first book have so many sexist remarks? Because I honestly don't remember, and this one had quite a few. The story in this was almost nonexistent and predictable, the pacing slow. At times, I found myself unable to read further because I'd come across another "women are expected to be their husbands' servants and that's how it should be" kind of line. Also,
"Kathleen was crying?" "She might be tough as nails, but she's still a woman."
Or something of that sort. What the heck is this? And don't get me started on the complete deletion of Loki's genderfluidity (I should get used to this, probably :/) Anyway, one star.

As for the second part, I can't say that I've enjoyed as much as the first... For me Katrina is too much of a damsel in distress, and yes, I can understand being in love and everything, but at some point the book gets me sicken from Loki and Katrina's love.
She is simply way too obsessed with him, even before finding out he is the "original" Loki, and Loki declaring his love for her, and standing up to her father.

I don’t know quite how to describe it. It seems like it’s written by somebody very young and the story doesn’t seem to have a lot to it, beg the author to forgive me. But it was interesting. I think the only reason I read it was because of the Norse mythology references.
I was really looking forward to reading this book as I enjoyed the first one very much. This one...not so much. The writing seemed amateurish and it seemed to drag on. I got about halfway through and couldn't read any more of it. Very disappointing.n
Fantastic follow-on to the first book (The Making of a Magician) in the Loki of Midgard series. Loved the adventures and enjoyed the ongoing plot to take out Loki. The characters are so real, I've got to remind myself they're not. Looking forward eagerly to the next book in the series!
