A jaded warrior who doesn't want to get involved + an irresistible she-dragon on the run. For centuries, the Guardians of Lisbon have kept shifter forces in check — dragons, vampires, and witches. Now, with their powers dwindling, they’re too busy to respond to a lone woman’s cry for help.
Novice dragon, Laura Sampao, always knew her family descended from dragon shifters, but that power — or curse — hadn’t manifested itself in generations. She thought it would never happen to her.
Wrong.
Now, vampires are after her blood, and her last hope is a mysterious, jaded warrior who saves her from a brutal attack. But that’s just the prelude to a far greater danger, giving her no choice but to trust the infuriatingly gruff, handsome stranger who awakens all kinds of hidden desires.
Marco da Silva, heir to an ancient dragon dynasty, has been burned by damsels in distress before, and he’s determined not to get involved. But somehow, he just can’t resist. Before he knows it, he’s spiriting Laura off to his private island hideaway with his inner dragon vowing to keep her safe.
Why? Because his heart isn’t the only reckless force stirring in the shifter world — powerful enemies are on the move too, and they’ll stop at nothing to seize Laura — and take control of an entire continent. Don't miss Anna Lowe’s FIRE MAIDENS: Billionaires & Bodyguards series! Danger lurks over Europe, where a ruthless dragon clan plots to seize power in the grandest, most glamorous cities. The guardians of old have summoned a new generation of shifter heroes to protect the castles, cathedrals, and cobblestoned streets of their ancestral homes — and to seek out the last of the Fire Maidens, women coveted by the dark lords for their royal blood. Those women are absolutely off-limits to the young warriors tasked with protecting them. But destiny, of course, has other ideas…
USA Today and Amazon best-selling author Anna Lowe loves putting the "hero" back into heroine and letting location ignite a passionate romance. She likes a heroine who is independent, intelligent, and imperfect — a woman who's doing just fine on her own. But give the heroine a good man (not to mention a chance to overcome her own inhibitions) and she'll never turn down the chance for adventure, nor shy away from danger.
On any given weekend, you might find her hiking in the mountains or hunched over her laptop, working on her latest story. Either way, the day will end with a chunk of dark chocolate and a good read.
“Fire Maidens: Portugal" is an exciting and fast paced paranormal romance! The descriptions of Lisbon and the Portuguese islands are truly breathtaking — readers will feel as though they are part of the story.

🔹️ Marco da Silva is a DragonShifter, who thinks the Guardians of Lisbon have forgotten what they’re duty is, lord they are so old they probably did. Marco flies into a female dragon being chased by a low life dragon. Making sure the low life leaves her alone Marco tell her to follow him, he just doesn’t have time for women, plus he just doesn’t want anything to do with them their trouble. She was trouble in spades.
🔹️ Laura Sampao is a human until she shifted five weeks ago. She comes to Lisbon to see the Guardians for help. In the mean time she is being chased by vampires and dragons will she survive?
☄️ This review is my own opinion, this author is one that I love to read.
Laura is a novice dragon – the first with the ability to shift in her family for generations. She heads to Portugal to seek guidance from the Guardians, yet they do not respond before she gets “bad guys” on her tail, literally.
Marco tries to remain uninvolved but finds himself volunteering to train Laura and keep her safe, for the time-being. Laura is an apt and somewhat fearless student and gains Marco’s respect. When old enemies connive against them, they realize how much they have begun to mean to each other.
I feel like I know how to breathe fire and execute dragon maneuvers after reading this spectacular story. The background story on our characters, and the descriptions of the landscape make you feel like you are there! I’m a huge fan of all of the Fire Maidens, and this definitely added to the excellence!!
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
As with ALL of Anna's books, you get lost in the pages. You want the stories to continue although we all love a happy ending. Anna doesn't disappoint with this story either. We have Laura and Marco in this story. Laura just found out she's a dragon after generations of no signs of anyone in the family being one for years. Marco is a loner, burned by a previous love and bound and determined to stay uninvolved with any woman. But as we all know, when the dragon recognizes his fated mate there's no going back. I love how marco is torn between helping her yet trying to keep his distance. This book is action packed and will keep you glued to your seat!! This book was given to me by the author with no obligation to review.
Book 4 of Fire Maidens: Portugal by Anna Lowe Laura is very new to her dragon, after finding a gem she shifts and make her way to Portugal where her heart says she needs to be. One night a vampire attacks her and Marco comes to rescue and finds out a fire maiden has come to Portugal. I love that Laura is very independent and not a push over and when Marco comes into her life he doesn’t make her feel stupid because doesn’t know what she doing but instead help her to be a better dragon and find the happiness she’s be longing for. The narration for Anna Lowe audiobooks are amazing Kelsey Osborne has an amazing talent to bring each character our perfectly but still keep their individually and make each one have a different sound. Can not wait for Fire Maidens: Ireland
I just love this author. Anything she writes is well written and highly recommended. This series is wonderful, exciting, suspenseful, emotional, dramatic, and much more. She gets a surprise when her dragon genes that have been dormant come alive and she needs to learn about that. But danger comes calling so she gets him to help. He doesn't want anything to do with women but for some reason can't say no to her. May have to do with her being his mate. But can he protect her with so much evil coming? I received a review copy and voluntarily review it
Fire Maidens: Portugal is book four in the Billionaires & Bodyguards series and while it can be read as a standalone, I highly suggest you read all the books in the series in order. I personally feel like it makes the stories more enjoyable. This is Marco and Laura’s story! Laura knew her family was descended from dragons but thought the power was long gone. Marco is an heir to an ancient dragon dynasty who’s not ready for love. As Always Anna has done a fantastic job writing a story with characters and places we love and want to visit.
Marco is a reluctant hero and suitor to a maiden very much in need. He was hurt bad and just wants to be left alone. He can't quite resist her when he sees how her safety is at risk and no one else is willing to help. She has a lot to learn after believing her family had no connection to shifters any longer.
The characters are well developed and I really liked her for wanting to do the right thing and help others. Once you learn more of his past, it helps you understand his initial reluctance to get involved and open your heart to him too. Their chemistry is very strong from the beginning and I felt the ending worked well.
Laura a dragon shifter that has just recently shifted for the first time heads to Portugal for some answers. Then all she find is trouble that includes another dragon and a vampire. Luckily fate was watching out for her and sends her someone to protect her. Marco has been burned once by what he thought was love. Will he be able to open his heart again? Maybe even teach Laura everything she needs to know before it's too late?
What can I say! Laura and Marco are such a fabulous couple! really enjoyed this latest installment to Anna's Billionaires and Bodyguards series. Beautifully descriptive , you could almost be there! Brilliant teaser for Finn's story too! I received an advance copy of this book and am delighted to volluntarily review.
Adventure, passion, and action! Will the unresistable attraction between Laura and Marco end in happiness or disaster? Evil forces abound in Portugal and it’s up to Dragon shifters Marco and Laura to stop them, or perish trying. Who will win in the end? Good or evil? Love or hate?
love this series and author so much.. it is sweet and sexy.. it is action packed and fun.. the characters are likable and amazing.. and it is all around just a fun story and series to read.
I am loving the Fire Maiden series! Basically, it’s about shifter men who had formed a bond in the French Foreign Legion and will always be there for each other after they left the service. Each man who has returned home has rescued a damsel in distress from the clutches of vampires and the dragon Shifters the Lombardi family. These ladies seem to be Americans drawn to certain countries, and discover that they are are special descendants with a special destiny.
While that premise is a part of each book in this series, what makes it so enjoyable is the characters are people you want to root for, as well as the settings each book takes place in. I feel I get to be a tourist in all these beautiful countries while I’m enjoying a page turning supernatural romantic action thriller!
I just love a happy ending, and Laura and Marco deserves their fair share of happiness. Although it took a while to get there. Now Portugal has found their fire maiden, and with a lot of work to get every in order Laura and Marco are two happy individuals who have all the time in the work to get everything in order. But in the meantime they get to find time for each other. Loved it!! Now on to more thrills and adventure with our friend Finn and his long lost love..I wander how that will turn out...well until then this your biggest fan Winzie19☺💞.
Loved the characters and the storyline and couldn't put it down and can't wait to read more in this series so it's a well deserved five stars and I would recommend this book to everyone
I loved this story!!! Plenty of shifter action and lots of steamy romance too!!! I was able to laugh and feel as though I was there with Laura and Marco. Can't wait until Finn's story!!
These stories keep getting better and better. I’m a big fan and look forward to the next one! Finn needs to fine love and I am so curious about his past as well.
I really enjoyed this fourth book. No need to read in order as there is only a little overlap, usually of the next character who will be based in the next city that will be getting their story told. Great story with an entertaining plot that took me along for an enjoyable ride. I loved the slow fall into the realisation of being mates, even though Marco was a bit stubborn due to being burned in the past. His dragon was more astute than him. Pushing the truth at him. The sex scenes were soft, comfortable and very enjoyable. Great chemistry between Laura and Marco and though I have never been to Portugal or Madeira, they both came alive for me with the great descriptive scenes. The Guardians of these two places are even more ponderous and slow than any of the previous cities and it seemed fitting that they were well shaken up. The fact Laura has only just learned she is a dragon shifter and needs to learn everything from scratch added to my enjoyment. Really glad Olivia is out of the picture. Cannot wait to read Finn’s story. This is my honest review of this book.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading Laura & Marco's story very much. I love reading a happy ever after story it makes my day. Thank you for writing this story. Eagerly waiting for Finn's story.
I realized while I was reading the fourth installment of the Fire Maiden series that one of the reasons I jump to read these books is not just the wonderful love story, or the stronger than she thought heroine or even the sometimes grumpy, but lovable hero, but part of the draw is also the locations where these suspenseful love stories take place. I was in Portugal this past summer and Anna Lowe intertwines the beautiful location with such dedication, that it's almost like it's an additional character into the story. Which, I guess it almost is. I remember the feel of the street cars, the taste of the custard pastries and can totally picture the places where the characters are fighting and running for their lives. It makes it so much more believable that Laura and Marco would dedicate themselves to keeping these places peaceful and thriving. So if you've been there it takes you back and makes the story come to life even more and if you haven't been there, add it to your bucket list. Until then, this book will definitely soothe your wanderlust. If you're looking for more european travel inspirations read the other Fire Maiden books.
STRONG WOMEN AND CLEVER DRAGONS. Action packed and romanic, this story is sure to satisfy. I recommend reading this page turner in series order but it is not necessary if you dont want.
This is the 4th book in the Billionaires & Bodyguards series and this one doesn't disappoint. I absolutely love Anna Lowe's books, they are so realistic that you honestly feel that you are part of the story. This one takes us to Portugal - what a place I felt as though I was truly there!!! Marco and Laura's story is totally believable and the chemistry is off the rictar scale. The characters are very strong and well defined. I was given this ARC by the author and I'm so very pleased to be able to give my honest review.
I truly enjoy reading Anna Lowe’s books. This series is wonderful. Marco and Laura’s story has fun, sexy, steamy and action packed drama. I was gifted this book as an arc. I voluntarily give my review. I highly recommend this book and any of Anna Lowe’s book. She has a wonderful way of telling a story.
Laura does not know why she is being chased by a vampire. She recently shifted into a dragon shifter and she has no training on how to properly fly. Her great great aunt was a shifter but she thought it was only a myth since no one has inherited that trait until her. She was told that going to Portugal will help her to find an audience with the Guardians. Then, the vampire and his friend chases her which turns out that one of them is a dragon. She desperately flies to lose him when another dragon comes in to fight against the one who is chasing her. She is surprised that he is willing to let her stay at his house. Marco invites her to stay at his house so he can help. He is a private person and he does not want to get involved to any woman since his last relationship. As Laura tells him how she travelled to Portugal, he remembers how the Guardians are too busy to help someone like her. He left his home to join the French Foreign Legion where he met his friends. His dragon recognizes that Laura is his mate but he wants to avoid women at all costs. Laura has a lot of questions about being a shifter and Marco's friend shares his knowledge and answers her inquiries immediately. Then, he decides to take her to Madeira where he was born so he can keep her safe there. However, they need to get away quickly so she turns into a dragon to fly towards their destination. Marco personally trains Laura to fight using her shifter abilities. He keeps denying the attraction he feels for her but his dragon cannot stop thinking about his mate. When he sees Her life is in danger as the enemies plan to capture her and he needs to save her so they can finally be together. The story has a good plot and the author made a fantastic job in describing the details of Portugal. There is action, drama, and romance that makes it interesting to read. The characters have a great chemistry and I like how he is protective towards her. I enjoyed reading the book and I love that Laura and Marco
"Fire Maidens: Portugal takes the reader on a journey where evil vampires and shifters roam the streets to harm unsuspected citizens. The Guardian Council of Lisbon is a band of shifters who for many decades have been protecting citizens. The council's power is failing, and now they seek help from a fire maiden. Inside, you'll find awesome picturesque scene descriptions, witty flirty moments, fabulous character interaction, fierce camaraderie, life-threatening issues, suspense, action, sizzling passionate romance, and happy forever ending.
Laura a rookie dragon shifter, is in Portugal to seek help from the Guardians. She is in dire need of knowing the ins and outs of being a dragon shifter. Marco, a wealthy dragon shifter is recently home from the French Foreign Legion and is ready to relax and enjoy his free time. One evening he comes to Laura's rescue when she is being chased by a male dragon shifter while in flight. He talks Laura into coming to his home for protection, and their journey to their happy forever begins.
Spectacular fast-paced thrilling storyline with praiseworthy characters. Marco and Laura's romance is fiery passionate and, believable. I loved Marco's protective nature and Laura's fearless persona. Backstories give the reader more insight into the lives of the characters. The author's vivid descriptions help bring you closer to the beauty of Portugal. The author does a fabulous job showing that letting go of the past, is pivotal in a healthy loving relationship. Relishing this entertaining read, I voluntarily reviewed a pre-release copy of this story via the author. I look forward, to the next Fire Maiden read.
I love reading Anna Lowe's stories. She has a good habit of making the paranormal come to life.
Marco is a dragon shifter. He just completed a tour with the Foreign Legion of France and has come home to settle into a nice quiet life. He had been burned by women before he joined and everything he has seem since has confirmed that most women just want what would make them comfortable. Until he rescues Laura and winds up bringing her home. his dragon is pushing him that she is his mate, but he doesn't believe in mates any longer.
Laura's family has known they were descended from dragon shifters but no one has been able to shift for generations. Until she suddenly started to shift, much later in life than most start. She has been trying to find help for a while now, only coming across some taciturn shifters in the US. She makes the decisions to return to her family's roots and see if she can find help there.
Once in Portugal she winds up being targeted by vampires, who have gotten another dragon to chase her down. She is on the run until she sees a third dragon coming right for her. She manages to dodge him and finds out he was chasing the original dragon trying to catch her, and not herself. Giving Marco, who is the one that came to her aid, her guarded trust she starts to learns more of shifters, specifically dragons.
Will these two be able to come together, or will the past interfere? Read the book to find out. I did receive a copy of this book for free, and I fell in love with not just this story but any of the Fire Maidens Anna has brought to life. I can't wait for the next book to come out.
Another great love story in the Fire Maidens series. Laura has only just discovered that the dragon genes that have been long dormant in her family have decided to make an appearance in her. Struggling to learn what she needs to know about shifting, flying, and hardest of all, landing, she travels to her ancestral home country of Portugal in search of answers. What she will find is a whole lot more than she bargained for.
Marco has returned to Portugal determined to stay out of the politics that rule the shifter world. His spot on the Guardian council can just sit empty. Those old families are just too stuck in their ways to listen to anything he tries to tell them. His time in the French Foreign Legion has taught him a lot about who to trust and about the wars the powerful drag others into. When his dragon alerts him to trouble near his home in Lisbon he is reluctant to investigate, but his dragon is insistent. Rescuing the female dragon from one of his cousins is not hard to do but his interest in her is another matter. He has been taken in once before by the damsel in distress act and has no desire to fall for it again. He discovers that Laura may be a damsel but she doesn't need saving, well maybe a little saving. What she really needs is training and he is the man for that job. Now if his dragon would just stop throwing the word "mate" around...
Join Marco and Laura as they go from Lisbon to Madeira and from rescuer and rescuee to lovers. Laura may nail that landing yet.
I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
New dragon shifter, Laura Sampao, has always known that her family is descendants of dragon shifters but never expected to shift herself. Now she has and needs help controlling her dragon side. Marco da Silva is heir to a guardian position in Portugal but refuses to take the seat. When he comes across Laura flying, badly, away from an enemy dragon he steps in to help. Even though he is instantly attracted he refuses to let himself become attached to any woman after his ex’s betrayal. But fighting his feelings for Laura isn’t the only fight he has to deal with.
Laura is a strong, caring, and determined woman. I quite liked her. She was determined to master shifting and used her newfound skills to save herself in the end. Marco was the strong, grumpy dragon who is distrustful of women due to his ex. Laura was just the kind of person needed to break him out of his shell and live again. I really enjoyed seeing these two fall in love and fight for it.
Now that the enemies have been pushed out of Portugal I do wonder where they will strike next and how Finn will play a part in it. Finn was an interesting character and I really can’t wait to learn more about him.
