When you’re a renegade in a foreign land, every stranger could be an enemy, every breath could be your last.
Brion is trapped in a hopeless search for his mentor and friend, Redmond, who has disappeared in a kingdom on the brink of civil war. When he falls afoul of the regent, Lady Adelaide, Brion finds himself beyond the bounds of the law, pursued by assassins, and accused of kidnapping the boy-king of Morcia. Now he must pluck Redmond out of a thousand square miles of enemy territory while evading clashing armies and keeping his friends alive. How far will he go to save one friend? How much will he sacrifice?
James is a twenty-nine-year-old stuck in an older man’s body. He loves to paddle his canoe, shoot his handmade longbows in the woods, make knives, study martial arts, and generally enjoys challenging himself. When not teaching or writing about the real past, he is imagining worlds and histories that might have been, should have been, or may yet be.
James has two homes (though only one house)--the mountains of Idaho and the forests of New England--where he canoes, hikes, camps, rock climbs, and shoots the longbows he makes himself. He lives in Massachusetts with his wife.
James is a professional historian whose published works include two histories of the Inquisition, a documentary history of Columbus's first voyage, a transcription of a colonial era account book from Weymouth, Massachusetts, and a global history of piracy. This means that he is a professional teller of stories, both real and imagined.
James's favorite author is J.R.R. Tolkien, though he will never be able to watch the Peter Jackson Hobbit films again. The first viewing nearly gave him a fit. He loves The Giver and The Book Thief. He has read all the Hunger Games novels, but thinks Katniss should have ended up with Gale. (Sorry Peeta fans.) He enjoys Harry Potter and thinks magic should be real--so long as he owns the Elder Wand.
The Archer series is just right for this time, at least for me. I read serious nonfiction too - this is my escape. Elliot does a fine job of YA fiction.
All I can say is: DOWN WITH THE BLOODY BIG HEAD!!!
“You’re a churl and a doxy,” Redmond gasped. “No man of honor would have anything to do with you.” Oh Redmond how I love you so!
I was overjoyed to have Redmond back in the midsts of things.... But I am absolutely ECSTATIC that he and Brion will be back together! You can't beat that.... If only Neahl was there! The death of Neahl was brutal on my heart.... But to see Redmond so beat and toyed with when we all know he could kill the whore with his bare hands (that is if he risked touching her nasty self) was just infuriating!!
York stirred beside her. “How many spoons can one person need?” he mumbled. Gwyneth turned to stare at him. “You’re worried about the spoons?” York shrugged. “Well, that funny fork thing has me worried, too,” he whispered. “Can’t they just use a knife like everyone else? Oh you have to love the humor Elliot gives! Here they are around people that want to kill them and he's worried about flatware.
“It has been so long,” he said, “since a woman has accepted a challenge to combat most of us have forgotten the ancient laws. We had to review the written law to see how to handle it. In Morcia, a woman is legally considered to be half a man. Therefore, a man who engages in combat with a woman must be buried up to the waist in sand to make the combat fair.”
The dude was a dimwit... But what kind of law is that!?
“It’s just water,” she shouted to him. “No, it isn’t,” he shouted back. “It’s liquid death.”
I get Jack and Redmond.... I'm the same book! Goodness I love them!
Books six is a whirlwind of craziness that your just can't help but want to hold on to! And I feel like Jack! "It's just a book!" .... not it isn't, its emotional death!!!
Rollo lifted the sledgehammer. “Oh shut up, you idiot,” he said and swung the sledgehammer suddenly at Logan’s head. The men cried out as the hammer smashed Logan’s helmet, and he crumpled to the stone.
Oh thank you Rollo you never disappoint. This book was absolutely fantastic and I can't wait for the next book Order of the Rook!
I have read the entire Archer of the Hearhland series up to this book. It is an excellent series, well written, gripping and impossible to put down. Read all of the books you will be very glad you did.
It seems as the characters age they get a bit stupider. There have been too many new characters entered into the mix. Plenty more of the main ones to kill off.
Fewer editing and writing errors now, thankfully.
Now the main issues (with a leading character lying TU) all change around. The book’s equivalent of the KGB/CIA organizations burst out of the dark to take over, but it will help winnow the chaff.
This story becomes too much like the real world’s problems of the same type.
The author carefully weaves the simultaneous timeline of multiple story threads in a way that leaves you at the edge of your seat. My heart actually raced through the action scenes. This is a great read and an author worth following!
Brion and his companions go on to rescue Redmond but not without danger to them all. Friendships will be gained, and some lives will be lost. Lots of intense moments never know what going to happen next. Another great book in the series and a real page turner.
