Indonesia Handbook

Rate this book
Indonesia, a beautiful Southeast Asian country formed from thousands of islands, was once a popular tourist site but today is associated mostly with Islamic terrorism and a deadly 2004 tsunami disaster. This book addresses these issues, but also gives a broad overview of the nation's culture, society, and history. (20000101)

Innovative classic in travel books. It was so good that Lonely Planet had hard time for a decade to penetrate the Indonesia-travel book market.

The book is FULL of information, whether it is nature walks with adjoined trek maps drawn by the author himself, descriptions of the customs of 120 Million+ Indonesians and their ethnic goups at that time, and a glossary and grammatic for Bahasa Indonesia to speak their collective (Esperanto-inspired) very nice language, that helped a lot during our 2 months there in 1986.

It stands alone as a book, not only as travel guide. As a practical travel guide this is also on top.
