The pros: It's so short you can read it in one sitting.

It's certainly "action packed."

The cons: There is a lot of inaccurate information, such as; The FBI and CIA both being headquartered in Langley, Virgina, and the organisations seem to be used interchangeably?
The FBI headquarters is in Washington?

A lot of odd phrasing that is not American coming from American characters.

It's short, but there is honestly way too much going on. I feel like the author should have chosen a single story to run with.

The plot seems to jump around a lot.

None of the characters have enough personality to be liked or disliked.

I think the author certainly has some potential, as he seems to be intelligent.

All in all, it isn't bad.

I received this book/novella from the author and the fine folks at Bookfunnel.com in return for an honest review.

I found this book to be an exciting introduction to the world of Andrew Flint, a novice CIA agent stationed in Moscow in the years of Boris Yeltsin and the FSB in the defection of a double agent FSB Colonel.

I really enjoyed this book and as such would easily give this book a solid four and a half (which would round up to five stars on Goodreads.com).

As with all reviews, this is just my five cents worth.

This was an offering from Voracious Readers in exchange for a review.

This is just the sort of thriller I've read and enjoyed for years. It's set in Moscow in the early 1990's and our hero is Andy Flint, a CIA operative. The story has all the elements that keep you interested--is there a double agent, who is following whom, and who exactly do you trust?

With the exception of one or two minor editing points, this story keeps moving and I found it'd finished it mostly in one session. It does what I like for a book to do--make me lose track of the time.

I received a free copy of this book I from Voracious Readers Only in return for an honest review. The book is an easy read, fast paced spy thriller. It’s not technical at all and doesn’t go in depth on procedures like many spy books. Whilst spy fans might not like this as it’s not detailed enough and factual, for others it makes it a more enjoyable lighter read.

I really enjoyed this - hadn't read anything by this author before. It just like a cold war spy drama but set now. Russian mafia. I want to say more but if I do there will be spoilers.

Not a complicated read but so much fun.

I was given an advance copy by the author and voracious readers only but the review comments are all my own and not influenced.

A light and fun read, this novella has you follow a young CIA agent's adventure in Moscow. I enjoyed the story and certainly had trouble putting the book down. This book can easily be finished in one sitting. A great way to escape a snowy and stormy afternoon. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

These espionage thrillers are one of my favorites reads. It took me a few chapters to get into the story but it was worth hanging in there. Now I know there is a whole series on the leading character. That is where I will be going next. Once I find an author and character that I enjoy, continuing to watch his/her escapades is even more exciting.

Although it did start out a little slow it picked up speed pretty quickly. It definitely made me want to read more. I don't know much about spies but what I see in the movies or read in books but I know I want to learn more about Andys adventures.

Started off fast and drew me in right away. It was a fun story and Andy Flint is a good character, though the story was a little too fast paced and needed just a little more character development.

Moscow in the time of Yeltsin & Andy Flint, reasonably fresh out of The Farm, the CIA training facility, is in it up to his neck.

With high level moles somewhere in the organisation, an aggressive Security Service operative & the Russian Mafia on his trail, there's plenty of roadblocks to Andy succeeding in the defection of a ranking FSB informant.

This introductory novella in the Andy Flint series was an high octane read with some great double bluffs and an unusual sidekick in an honest Russian businessman.

My only complaint would be that Kozmar's proof reader has let him down on a number of occasions with badly structured/punctuated sentences and some really glaring spelling mistakes - bow instead of bough of a tree & stationary instead of stationery for office products, for example!

Thanks to the author via Voracious Readers Only for the free copy of this book in exchange for review.

2.5 Stars.

The first half of this very short book is a lot of chasing without much plot. At the halfway mark, there are finally some twists in the story, but it still isn't all that compelling, even being somewhat chaotic. The rest of the book has various interactions with CIA colleagues, Russians, and more chasing. I found myself somewhat bored because of the lack of plot for the first half and the lack of character (there were a lot of them) development throughout. I think the book needed to be either longer or more focused. If you like short books with a lot of chasing, this is for you.

The next book may very well be much more interesting. I won't be following up on it though.

This book is an uncomplicated thriller full of heart-stopping scenarios and nail-biting moments. The spy story made up for its brevity by its numerous action packed scenes. Set in Moscow and the Cold War era, when the espionage activities between the Americans and Russians were rampant, the narrative brings in a new hero in the person of Andy Flint, a street smart and sharp CIA field agent. His spunk was tested when he assisted a Russian spy to defect to the west eventually outwitting FSB chief Oleg Malchik in the process. The writer skillfully and competently described the gunfights and maneuvering of operatives and the chase scenes were mildly impactful but effective in contributing to the rising action. The story development was solidly conceptualized and the style of writing was promising enough to engage the reader's interest and attention!

International Intrigue

I really enjoyed this book. It is filled with international intrigue, based in Russia, featuring Andy Flint. He is a new CIA Agent fresh from The Farm and this book details his first exciting case. He is assigned with helping a major player from Russia defect and has obstacles galore. His fellow agent, Tex, doesn’t have his head in the game and causes major problems which leads to Andy getting help from a business owner who has his own problems with a mobster. There is also an officer in the FSB determined to get Andy and the defector. Lots of action and suspense in this one.

There is a really big cliff hanger at the end which will definitely make you want to keep reading this series!

It starts out kind of slow but picks up speed with twists and turns that will make you want to LOL as the newbie American operative in Russia manages to outwit the Russian who is out to get him! Andy Flint has to use many "friends" who either end up dead or beaten up!! This series is not for the squeamish.

Andy does manage to help the person he needs to help-even with all the Russians interference. I really think I need to read the next in this series to see what else Andy gets into or out of!

A “beginning” book.

There’s a saying that the only experts on Russia are those that have been there 2 weeks or less. A novice reader will find this book an exciting read. They will not notice the obvious inconsistencies or total lack of authenticity. The writer seems to have little knowledge of Moscow Rules. Agents do not live in safe houses. Dry cleaning an agent takes 4 hours, not just a turnaround in the Metro. I could go on; however, I would highly recommend this book to anyone has never had a security clearance.

Defector drew me in from the start. Andy Flint is a street-smart agent who has a knack for getting in trouble, but a talent for getting out of it. The story was action-packed and gritty to the point where, with my heart thumping, I read faster to discover what happened next. I really appreciated the thought that went into planning complex operations and escapes. Being a novella, it was a quick read, but an enjoyable one. I recommend this book to readers who want a quick action-filled read.

This story was short, but action packed and very engrossing. The plot kept me engaged through the entire book.

Andy is a fairly new member of a government agency currently based in Russia. After the head of the agency becomes ill, Andy is tasked to become the handler for one of their contacts. The contact wants to leave Russia as he is being investigated and does not think the outcome will end well.

The mission set in motion does not go according to plan and Andy has to stay one step ahead of his determined adversary...

Action / spy / FBI type story set in Russia. Due to circumstances Andy Flint takes charge of handling an asset defecting out of Russia. Throughout this he gains and loses some friends. The puzzle pieces to success are hinted at through the storyline and then come together at the end. Car chases, ambitious colonels, good and bad guys. This book has it all. I think this character has good potential and this book certainly sets up a foundation for further escapades.

I received this copy of Defector via VoraciousReadersOnly in exchange for an honest review.  This is also the first in a new series starring a young CIA agent named Andy Flint. It is also  a first for me  reading any of books by author Peter Kozmar.

I have to say, the action began heats up on page one and held my attention from page after page right to the end.  I couldn't wait to find out what happened next!

Thumbs up, five stars to Defector and to Peter Kozmar, and thank you for ARO for introducing me to another great author and new series, I'll  be looking for more about Andy Flint!

A quick read, gripping and page-turning espionage thriller set in 1993 Russia. I liked the pace and the suspense that was present all the time. I was surprised that the book is short compared to other thrillers, so it's more of a novella than a novel. The main character feels real, although he doesn't evolve during the book.

The book does what it promises: a lot of fun reading it and forgetting about the time for a while.

I don't read a lot of spy novels and I hadn't heard of this author before but I was glad I gave this one a try.

It was fast paced with great detail. There were some twists and turns that I didn't anticipate, which is always a plus for me. I had a couple scenes where I didn't see how it played into the story until the very end, which was also a bonus.

I love storylines that keep you guessing and trying to figure out how it ties together.

I look forward to reading more of this series and this author.
Thank you Voracious Readers Only and Peter for a great book to read.

I was given a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only for an honest review. I found this book to a quick, easy read but was exciting from start to finish about American/Russian spies. The author found a way for you to connect with the main characters without all the fluff that some authors add which makes for longer reads. I look forward to reading the next in the series!

Very fun book. This kind of reminds me of Robert Dugoni's Charles Jenkins series.

This book had some really good spycraft work throughout the book. Andy Flint having some fresh ideas on being an agent for the CIA. There were times you didn't know who he could trust.

I feel like there are a few areas where more story could have explained a few things to make them a bit clearer.

But overall, the book had me clues to the pages. Can't wait to read the next book.
