Vicious killers, gold, gamblers, and Indians plus a vengeful posse are the fate for Hicks and the twins.
While traveling to their next job the trio, Hicks and the twins, young Conner and Abby, make a stop in Abilene to get a much-needed rest. Abby and Conner take jobs just to keep busy. While working at the hotel, Abby is accosted by the Sheriff’s brutal son, while in his attempt to rape her, she kills him. The trio high tail it, knowing an ugly posse will be out to seek revenge.
They come across a job as regulators for the RM Railroad, protecting the movement of the last of the gold shipment down from the mountain above them. On the way to the mine, Conner saves the life of a young Arapaho brave, as is the custom they become blood brothers. Unknown to them at the time, a vicious gang is preparing to take the gold at all costs. When all hell breaks loose on their way down with the gold, the unexpected help of four Arapaho braves saves their hides, when the gang blows up the tracks. A hint of love, gold lust and a hell-bent posse making the trio’s life miserable, to say the least.
What did I like? The life back then would have been hard just to stay alive and feed yourself, without all the misery that River Hicks brought with him from his past. Whatever happens to them, the change from the hellacious conditions that their father and brothers put them through, would be heaven as compared. The respect and growing attachment that they are experiencing are written on every page. It is amazing to watch that play across the storyline.
What will you like? Again, the pages are filled with unexpected troubles and action all put together from the expert storyteller that gives us these adventures. His knowledge of the area and the details and descriptions make the pages come alive, with the scents of the mountain pines and the gamey smell of the Indians and horses. The filth of the towns due to unsanitary conditions that existed during that time floats across the air. The brutal life of the cowpoke and the desperateness of the outlaws is felt as you turn the pages to keep the action moving, staying with the pain in yet another exciting adventure. Our author is still keeping the secret of the relationship of Hicks to the kids. I am just going to have to stick around as he only gives us little hints as to what it might be… I’ll be here, he has me hooked. LOL

Definitely another five star masterpiece of heartwarming episodes that piques your undivided attention from beginning to end! This fast moving rendition of unending excitement will definitely leave no stone unturned, and the Author's successful descriptiveness of each and every exciting episode will appease your desired reading expectations!
The outstanding storylines successfully maintains your undivided attention immediately, and never slows down until the final paragraph has been completed! Too, the character selections were outstandingly portrayed throughout this polarizing series of outstanding quality old western frontier series of ongoing gunfighting excursions! No down times, as the trio, and their associates, pulling no punches in their quest to bring justice to those responsible for their wrongful misdeeds!
Most definitely recommend this compelling western folklore masterpiece to everyone, but especially to you western folklore addicted fanatics, as I am, also! You non-western enthusiasts will definitely enjoy following this trio of committed justice seeking compadres, as they continuously bring justice to those responsible for their wrongful misdeeds! They have additional help in this compassionately motivated story of unending adventures! I have had the opportunity to follow this trio of justice seekers in all of their ongoing excursions, and already purchased the next release! Happy trails!!!😃

This is listed as #4 in the series, but seems more like book two, although the twins are 2 years older. After Abby killers the sheriff's son, for trying to abuse her, they need to get out of town quick, so River Hicks, Connor and Abby head toward Colorado. They get jobs as Regulators for the Rocky Mountain Railroad guarding a train loaded with gold from a tapped out mine, for shipment out east. The sheriff isn't interested in the gold, but the Doyle gang is. Good read with lots of action.

Too many authors spoil the series.
It would appear each author is given the names of the three protagonists and told to write a book about them. Which they do WITHOUT reading the book that comes before! This causes the protagonists to be different in character in each book. After realizing this I was able to accept the (to me) jarring differences I found in each book. I just finished this fourth book and probably won't read the next four because of this.

I have ever read there is no connection from book to book& what there is makes no sense Mr. Hart can't even remember what he wrote in the last book&is to lazy to check

I enjoyed this story. Conner and Abby sign on to protect a railroad gold shipment and get ;more action than they bargined for. This story does not lack for action.l

This was a good read that has all the good stuff western stories are full of. This isn't just another story, but you can't figure out how it's going to work out,and that keeps your interest.
