Are you a resident from the town of SameVille, where everyone looks and acts alike?
If you said no, then this book is for you!
We are all stars, with unique and different qualities that make us stand out with confidence. Who wants to be the same as everyone else? That is boring!
In this book, you will find confident, unique individuals who love life. No one is left out; cleft palate, albino, diabetic, crutches, blind, freckled, glasses, braces, brown, blue, green eyes, different skin color, hair/no hair, anxious, are just a few of the kids illustrated.
This inclusive picture book shows the journey of a group of children who confidently show their differences and visually explain why it is OK to be different. Not only are there over 70 different kids portrayed in the story, but this book allows the reader and child to become part of the story by including a drawing or picture of themselves in the book and describe what makes them unique!
Why you should read this book with your child(ren)?
This book is an opportunity to talk to the child(ren) about being different and seeing other children who are different. Children who read this book will build self-worth and confidence. The result is a child who wants to make an impact in shaping a wonderfully unique world filled with kind people.
The author's own experiences inspired this book. Jennifer Campbell was inspired to write this book based on what she dealt with when she was younger. She was bullied from fifth to ninth grade for not being like other kids. But why is that a bad thing? Shouldn't we want to be different? Different is good, and Jennifer wanted to showcase why in her new children's book.

Unique Starts With You! is a brilliant book to inspire children and show them that being different is not a negative thing but something that makes you special.
Throughout the story we get to see lots of different children, what makes them unique and how they may feel about it. I love how the book shows differences between children in a positive way by explaining why somebody might be mean to you or show jealousy and why it wouldn't be good if we were all the same.
The characters in the book are all so different from each other and you can see how much effort has gone into this book to ensure there is a diverse range of characters and someone all children can relate too. The children loved seeing all of the different children and I think it's great for them to be in books more but not having their differences made a big thing out of.
The illustrations are amazing at showing all of the unique qualities of the children and I love how they were used to really show the feelings throughout the book. The page with everyone the same in black and white is very clever and effective. The children loved the page with the superpowers on, they thought that was cool!
This is a brilliant book that is very inspiring and motivational and made the children think about all of the things that make them unique, a book that all children should read (and maybe adults too!)
I loved the ease of this conversational, motivational book. The author has taken great care to offer positive affirmations about being unique and loving one's self. The illustration is lively and children featured are diverse. The inclusiveness of the book is excellent and I imagine young readers will identify with characters who resemble their own attributes.
I only have one potential concern: The two kids on p 15 who are dressed alike present a potential problem. How do I explain to my child why the larger child is sad? The small child seems happy, but text says someone is mean because he/she is jealous. Inadvertently the illustration plays into a stigma that the text does not at all want to convey.
Great book that affirms who you are. You are different and wonderfully created. Uniqueness starts with YOU! You should be kind to OTHERS. YOU and OTHERS can make this world a better place.
This is an awesome book for kids about being proud of being unique and accepting of others. The art is amazing, I love the designs for the kids especially. The prose is awesome and fun for kids to read. Definitely pick this up for a child you know.
