When Linda Reyes takes her daughter on a trip across America, she tells her a story about her days in the Coast Guard stationed in Puerto Rico, a tale about her fight against a Columbian drug cartel.
Matt Lincoln has lived his entire life on the coast and he wouldn't have it any other way. A lifelong fan of Travis McGee, Magnum PI, and just about anyone who knows their way around a boat and a good cigar, Matt now lives where the sand meets the surf with his beautiful wife, a son who reminds him way too much of himself at that age, and an Irish Setter who he can never seem to tire out. Life is good.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I wasn't sure about the whole one person story switching to the next person story but by the end it seemed like a novel way to tell the whole story. 😊
This is a Military Fiction, and this is the first book in the Coastal Defender series. I really loved the beginning, and I wanted more road trip stuff. Most of this book was Linda telling her daughter one story about her being in the Coast Guard. I did really enjoy the Coast Guard story there was a ton of action and suspense.
This book did not hold my arrention like Matt Lincoln's other two series I have read, Coastal Fury, featuring Marston & Holm, and Coastal Vigilante with Jake Header and his crew. I normally finish one of those books in a couple of days, unless daily events eat into my reading time. It took me a week to finish "Bracing For the Storm". I had to force myself to spend an hour reading it every day. I can't put my finger on any one thing that I didn't like; I enjoy Matt's writing style, and the vast majority of his storylines. For some reason, this one just didn't grab me likethe others. Sorry, Matt. I'm eagerly looking forward to the next book in your Coastal Fury series, though.
Wow, this book is not great! The characters are bland and your brain checks out after the first few pages. I made it to the end but, whoa... there's no depth to any of the people and the plot is a no-stakes game. I swear, there's no growth, no intrigue, just a bunch of superficial 'superhero' types that are so unrealistic it's outrageous. I can't believe this is an ongoing series. The writer must not have any respect for his readers.
Easy read and fairly entertaining. What annoyed me was that the author constantly says Linda screamed or so and so shouted. Linda screamed when saw Jake every time she saw him or she screamed on the phone. Otherwise characters shouted all the time. Sounded more like they were in high school.
Great story and lots of action!!! Love the characters and the backdrop of PR was awesome. Matt you did a wonderful job with your descriptions of PR , my Island is beautiful and our food is delicious and you capture all of it, even our coqui!!!! Keep them coming!!
Really enjoyed this book. Having spent 35 years in the Coast Guard Auxiliary I loved reading about the adventures of the active duty side. Looking forward to more.
