BEOWULF SCHOLARSHIP ANN BIB

Rate this book
This is a continuation of Short's "Beowulf Scholarship: An Annotated Bibliography" (Garland, 1980), from which it takes its format and central aims. Since the 1980s, a number of important developments in "Beowulf" scholarship have occurred. The dating of the poem has become much more controversial and, increasingly, different critical methodologies have been applied to the text. This bibliography aims to offer an important tool for negotiating the substantial body of scholarly work on the poem (over 500 items). A new feature of this volume is a line index of textual criticism, allowing the user to look up an individual line and find cross-references to proposed readings and emendations. The index includes textual scholarship from Short's volume, making this volume exhaustive from 1950 to 1990. Indexes by author and subject area are also included.
