Sometimes terrible things happen that can't be explained. Sometimes it's safer not to know.
The Ordshaw Vignettes is a collection of 12 short stories from the UK's worst-behaved city. These self-contained mysteries ask one key question: what if life's darkest mishaps - the mistakes, confusions, and strokes of awful luck - were caused by something ... else?
Witness carjackings, domestic arguments, theft and murder; question perceptions and reality to find the answers - all in the space of a tea break. Step into Ordshaw today and ask yourself, what secrets does this city hide?
Phil Williams is an author of fantasy, horror and dystopian fiction, including the Blood Scouts epic military fantasies, the Ordshaw urban fantasy thrillers and the post-apocalyptic Estalia series. He also works as a fiction editor and writes reference books to help foreign learners master the nuances of English, two of which are regular best-sellers on Kindle. As a long-term teacher and tutor of advanced English, he runs the popular website “English Lessons Brighton”.
Phil lives with his wife by the coast in Sussex, UK, and spends a great deal of time walking his impossibly fluffy dog, Herbert.
I really enjoyed this collection of vignettes. At just a few pages each, they really are vignettes.
I found that these were, while gritty and dark (as with the first novel in the series), they also added insight into the universe and, specifically, the Fae. I found them to be very clever and immersive and I really enjoyed reading them, despite the dark edges.
I really enjoy this series and look forward to reading more from this author.
I received a copy of this collection via the author.
These were awesome little tasty bites of Ordshaw. Disturbing and creepy insights into the underbelly of an English city, which have a distinct plausibility about them. I reread a couple of them straight away because if the "did I just read, what I thought I read?" element. Will be following this book up with others from the series.
Loved this collection! Each one was delightfully dark and made me want to get to know the residents of Ordshaw and all their little quirks. Thank you Phil Williams for my copy of it! I will be looking for more of this creepy little city!
