Sullivan Gray #1-4

The Sullivan Gray Series: Books 1-4

Rate this book
Two brothers. One fears the dead. One sees them. Together, they help homicide victims find justice.

The Sullivan Gray Series takes mystery and suspense and gives it a ghostly twist. This set contains books 1-4 (Black Candle, Harbinger, The Dule Tree and Crawl).

Black Candle

A missing girl. The ghost of a murdered woman. And one man racing against time to save them both.

The ability to see the ghosts of homicide victims has always been more burden than gift and, for Sullivan Gray, it's never been heavier.

As the storm of the century pummels the city, he finds himself sucked into a mystery, struggling to decipher clues from a ghost intent on saving a missing teenage girl.

His foster family has had his back since childhood, his older brother Dez acting as both wing man and protector. But as he draws nearer to answers, Sully finds himself pulled further from his family and increasingly on his own.

With time running out, he races to fulfill the ghost's desperate quest, a path that will take him into a world of witchcraft, dark secrets and murder.

One wrong step will leave him a ghost himself.

Harbinger

A spirit who sees the future might rob Sully of his.

When Sully’s boss is fatally shot, he becomes the main suspect in the homicide. The woman's ghost is guarding a secret, one that will reveal the true killer—if Sully can convince her to show him.

But he's got other problems. The terror stricken ghost of a powerful clairvoyant has intentions of his own, and Sully finds himself an unwilling accomplice on the spirit’s violent journey.

As Sully struggles to cope with two ghosts and his own internal demons, Dez and the rest of his family fear he’s losing himself to his gift. And he might just lose more than that.

Sully's world is about to change forever—if he comes out alive.

The Dule Tree

How do you find someone who no longer exists?

Two years after the supposed death of his brother Sully, Dez wakes up six feet under and six inches from death. With no air remaining, he is pulled back from the brink—by Sully.

The reunion is short-lived. Sully is kidnapped by a pair of masked assailants, leaving Dez desperate to find him.
In a small cell, Sully finds himself alone, but for a disturbed man and the ghost of a teenager he has always known only as the Purple Girl. As his time runs out, he begins to piece together a past he’d rather have left in the shadows.

And Dez, with the help of his estranged wife, a wounded private investigator, a dog and a woman claiming to be Sully’s long-lost mother, races to unearth the clues that will lead to his brother — and keep him from having to bury Sully a second time.

Crawl

Four years ago, seventeen-year-old spelunker Carter was killed in a cave collapse. The coroner deemed it an accident.

Sullivan Gray knows better.

A camping weekend with his brother Dez takes an unsettling turn when Sully sees Carter’s shattered spirit, a sighting that reveals the teen’s death was, in fact, murder.

The brothers launch an investigation—a job complicated by a marital infidelity case Dez has been handed and the fact Sully remains little more than a ghost himself.

Having once escaped his own death inside a collapsed cavern, Sully knows the dangers lying beneath the earth’s surface.

Raised on a farm on the Canadian Prairies, words quickly became my means of exploring the world around me and giving life to the one created in my imagination. Fascinated by ghost stories and crime fiction, I have been writing both for well over two decades, drawing on more than fifteen years in a career in a criminal justice setting. When not putting Scrivener through its paces, I enjoy reading, portrait drawing, travel and spending time with family and friends.

Excellent stories

The Sullivan Gray Box series books 1-4
By H.P. Bayne
I read the later series first and loved it. I didn't know about this series at the time which is made to read first. This series is not as polished as the later series but is good at giving the background.

Sully sees dead people. Dead people that need Help. Help Sully has to provide.

It took me a while to get into this series of books having come off reading a gamut of fast paced, dial in the plot, dark bully romances.
(Seriously, after all the book I’d read this one was like coming off a highway in a speeding car into a neighbourly, suburban street)

However, I decided to stick with it and I am so glad I did.

Granted the pace of the story was a little slow in the beginning as characters were being established but, once I acquainted myself with everyone I LOVED them.

They were all so real and well developed.
H. P Bayne has a gift for storytelling like no other.

I ADORED the troubled, fascinating, complex character of Sullivan (Sully) Grey ...(Ugh...My heart...sigh!)
With his ability to see the ghost’s of departed who had died through nefarious circumstances and all the problems that comes with that ability.

Also the relationship between Sullivan And Dez (Desmond) his policemen foster brother was absolutely brilliant and beautiful to read.
The way they both cared so passionately for each other, putting their lives in danger was beyond a blood relationship.

Honestly, these books were a joy to read.
They ticked SO many boxes for me.
The dark foreboding atmosphere surrounding the town of Kimotan Rapids gave off a whole Twin Peaks type vibe.

Each story had its own mystery element that keeps you engaged from start to finish.

Seriously. READ THIS SERIES NOW!

Unusual and thought provoking

I read alot and this series are different from anything I have read before. No heroic lead character, complex relationships between several but also makes you want to know more. I enjoyed them and the fact each book is stand alone, not leaving you on a cliffhanger that you'd only get an answer from the next one, which often leaves me disappointed with the follow up. The main characters, Sully and Dez are not perfect and don't end up with loads of moans about how hard their lives have been/are but show a development of their lives. Worth a read.

Thoroughly recommended.

I enjoy urban fantasy and I suppose this could fit in that category s well as a mystery detective type book.
Sullivan's world is a chaotic one. Actions most often dictated by the violently murdered who need to set something straight before they can move on. That can be bringing their killer to justice or letting out a long kept secret or something else all together.
This series can be read out of order but there is an overarching storyline that ties the books together. A story of family secrets and betrayal.

The other side seeking justice

This series kept me spelled bound. I couldn't stop reading
It was the perfect combination, the overprotective older brother and the younger pne with his special abilities to see the ghosts of those murdered, seeking justice so they could find peace and be able to move to the other side. There were several stories, crimes, characters, good and evil, all intertwined. The reader lived all the adventures as the plots developed. What a thrill! Thanks!

I thoroughly enjoyed this series, It is a very realistic tale of someone who is a medium. The struggles accurately describe the difficulties experienced when communicating with spirits. A tale of loss and love, many highs and lows that take the reader on a wonderful journey.
Highly recommended to Spiritualists and Fantasy fiction readers.

Engaging

Great series. The relationship between brothers rings true. You really begin to about them.
The writing is real as well; no verbose description of every sunset anywhere. And no plucky side kick like many stories.
Highly recommend!

Excellent reading. Kept me hooked and now longing to continue the series. The interaction between the brothers Dez and Sully can at times get too emotional but overall, thoroughly enjoyable reading

It didn't take long to get hooked on the story line, and even though the story line was serious, had some laughing out loud moments too

Absolutely fell in love with this series! Sully is a character I'd love to know. Down to earth, shy, and dedicated to his family and friends. My heart breaks for him, tho.
