Compensation for Criminal Injury

Rate this book
This publication builds on the author's earlier work on this topic and provides a comprehensive commentary on the Criminal Injuries (Compensation) (NI) Order 1988. The provisions of the Order and of earlier legislation are examined in the light of their interpretation by the courts in reported and unreported cases. Reference is also made to the decisions and practice in similar cases by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board in Great Britain and to the provisions of the Scheme of Compensation for Personal Injuries Criminally Inflicted which applies in the Republic of Ireland. The practice and procedure relating to criminal injury applications is also examined. A special chapter is devoted to alternative sources of compensation, with particular reference to the liability in tort for crimes of violence of persons other than the offender. The book aims to serve as a useful guide for practitioners and those concerned with the compensation of victoms of violent crimes.
