Counting Crows

Rate this book
Pivotal chapters in Counting Crows show New Yorkers battling the Flu Pandemic of 1918. Restaurants closed, and social isolation became the norm, as did face masks in public. Everything we are experiencing happened before. Then, a disastrous second wave of the virus pummeled New York City. This second wave shattered Maggie Canavan's life and pushed her onto a path of self-preservation, at any cost. Maggie had come to New York only intending to study art. How could she have ever predicted a world-wide pandemic would alter her life forever.

This is the third book in the author's "Threads of Courage" series. I give it 4.5

Maggie Canavan wants to be a fashion designer but she has followed in her parents' footsteps being a teacher in rural Maryland. In the summer of 1918, she goes to NYC to live with her aunt in hopes of in enrolling in art classes. She is enamored by the city as she takes in everything. She is introduced to feminism, the horrors of sweatshops, and the love of two men. Tragedy strikes with the pandemic. She must show her strength.
This novel is again about the author's family. Sittig heavily researched this book. I recently heard her speak about this book. All the more reason I wanted to read it.

This book is the best of your series, Linda!

I was fascinated with Maggie's journey from home town schoolteacher to adventurous NYC woman's advocate. Your descriptions of the different parts of NY in the 1900s was excellent! My favorite part of the story was that Maggie married your Dad! Cheers, Peggy
