OK, first... Keep in mind that the book came out in 1979. The CPU used is 8085 which was pretty standard at the time. The user interface was literally a bank of switches and LED lamps and you had to program it in machine code. But outside of that the concepts are interesting and even some of the discreet circuits used for I/O could still be used today. With a bit of revamping, I could see this being a very interesting Arduino project.

I remember borrowing this from the local library and being fascinated by the idea of an adaptive learning robot. By modern standards the "learning" the robot exhibits is extremely primitive but for a teenager in the 1980s it was eye-opening.

It is a kind of dated book about building a self-programming robot, but still really cool to do. Now, you can buy up to date circuits and experiment with the algorithms and becomes really fun.
