Given to me by my sister in the 70s when it was published, I still have my copy and re-read it occasionally. The author is passionate about butterflies and conveys his enthusiasm very well. He has a quirky style that gives great character to his observations. He also gives good advice about the habitats preferred by insects, worth following if one wishes to observe them oneself. He is an artist, and the book is illustrated by his watercolours of British butterflies. He paints as he sees, on the spot, so the artwork is fluid, improvised and delightful. Probably again a bit of a historical curiosity in terms of natural history, but still worth seeking out.
