I don’t understand this. Why couldn’t Lucy tell the scientists that she had been infected and recovered? I didn’t understand the logic of keeping this a secret when it could have potentially nipped the whole insanity of the mad scientist operation in the bud. I never understood why she kept her mouth shut during the meeting in book 4 when they were trying to figure out what to do with the “first” infected person.

On top of all I listed above, the torture of animals in this book was too much, and I personally think contains a plot hole, making the entire thing unnecessary. When Lucy had discovered the white powder it was from a dead animal, so why aren’t they just allowing the animals they infect to die and then collect the powder? Instead she cuts the flesh away from a living animal and uses a cheese grader on its bones while it lays screaming in pain. Or strips the fur and skin from a live animal as it lays twitching and whimpering. The fuck. Seriously, the fuck.

So between the unnecessary keeping of the truth that could have saved thousands of people from suffering, to the unnecessary torture of animals, this book was incredibly disappointing and maddening to me, especially after I loved books 1-3 soooo much.

Proxy is a brilliant finale to the Convulsive series; the plot continues at the same incredible pace and reaches a nail-biting climax where you really don't know how its going to work out. I particularly enjoyed the ethical dilemmas faced by Lucy and other key characters - all woven into the action without missing a beat. I think the CONVULSIVE series will stand the test of time and the paper compendium (Parts 1-5) is awesome for those of us who enjoy keeping a good read on their bookshelf.

I actually decided to write my review on the final book. I enjoyed the book very much. It was just a tad bit of a bad time for me to read it. I was unable to do it consistently as I like, or I should say listen for I had the audible book now for the sake of Goodreads, I listed each book separately even though it was the box set that’s way the books read are all added to the yearly count. It was a pleasure to follow Lucie and all those in the war against what seem like a undefeatable foe

Good but Gratuitous Torture

I enjoyed these book immensely but when it came to some of the torture parts of the book I felt it was not needed as explicitly as it was written.
