Call Me Lucy

Rate this book
"Protecting her is one thing. Saving her is another."

I’m told they don’t know how old I am, where I came from, or if I even have a home. All the doctors know is that I was hit by a car three weeks ago, lost my memory, and no one has tried to claim me since.
Not one person in the whole damn world knows who I am.
The social worker, Lillian, wants to put me in a shelter since I’m homeless. And nameless.
I prefer to be on the street than in a shelter.
Somehow, Lillian convinces me to live at her place. With her brother.
Billy.
Billy isn’t nice.
Billy has been told to protect me.
He’s given Lillian six weeks to get me out of there. But I refuse to be at his mercy, and I will do everything I can to discover my identity before my time is up… or die trying.
Until I find out who I am, he can call me Lucy.

This is a compelling story, it is emotional and so very moving and I found it very hard to put down once I started it, the characters are fabulous and getting to know them and the things that had happened in their past was all bought together by MS Battany in a wonderful poignant story with such a beautiful HEA.

A young girl is left with a brain injury after an accident in Sydney, she has no recollection of who she is or where she is from, Lillian a social worker is there to help, Lillian senses that this girl maybe blocking out a lot of her memory and instead of taking her to a shelter she takes her to her brother Billy’s place and asks him to help look after her.

Billy is not happy, off work himself with an injury, the last thing he wants to do is babysit, but he is drawn to this little woman for some reason and slowly he gets her to talk, she asks him a lot of questions about himself but doesn’t have a lot of answers about her life, but he feels that she has been hurt and that she is hurting still, the bond between them grows stronger. He calls her Lucy and they have a few outings to try and jog her memory but lots of people tend to make her pull into herself.

Lucy struggles with the fact that no one has come to claim her that she is alone and lonely she meets a guy named Tyler at the sight of the accident and he wants to be her friend and he pushes her to meet him but this causes her worry, when she wants to be with Billy, she trusts Billy but not Tyler and at first doesn’t understand why.

I don’t want to give too much away, but this story pulled at my heart, a story about abuse, but a story about love and caring, it is sensual and tender. Lucy no matter what she has been through is a beautiful woman inside and out, the strength she shows shines on the pages and Billy is just who she needed I loved him. I do highly recommend this story, I loved it thank you MS Battany, I look forward to more in this series, can’t wait to read Lillian’s story she so deserves her HEA.

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of this book and I have to say, I was gripped from the first page.
After an accident Lucy has no memory of who she is. Upon her release from hospital her social worker takes Lucy to live with her brother Billy.
While Billy is angry and uncertain in the beginning and Lucy is scrambling to discover her identity the chemistry and tension between them builds.
Lucy’s story was compelling and I found myself wanting to know who she was. That air of mystery coupled with the will they/won’t they romance kept me reading and reading. Such a great read.

Another great Rania Battany novel

Okay, so I'm a bit of a fangirl of Ms Battany's. I love her storytelling, her ability to face the grit of life and still have her characters survive the mess of life. And I love that she's an Aussie writer. 😍

I enjoyed every moment of 'Call Me Lucy'. The light and heavy, the frustrating and funny parts, too. I almost cried a few times when Lucy almost cried, and I warmed up quickly to grumpy-bum Billy. *swoon*

I am SO LOOKING FORWARD to the next books in the series. Yay to more of Lillian and Blake... (oh boy, is HE going to be a fun character!) and please let us hear about Gabby and her crush! Please!! Cos I love Gabby.

Oh!! And it was great seeing Leila and... uh, oh, Jacob? My mind has gone blank! Anyway, I thought the family connection was perfect!

Thank you for writing, Ms Battany. I look forward to pre-ordering your next book once you finish it (10k words... you can do it!!). 😀

Loved It

Wow I gotta say I've read heaps of books for lots of writers and there was always something that I could pick on that took away from the story like grammar errors or story doesn't flow well or details in chapters don't add up.but this book was the first one from this author and I gotta say I will definitely be reading more of her titles cause her story flowed so easily and there was no contradicting details. Everything from the characters to the storyline was well thought of. I loved all the characters even Tyler tho his actions made me angry I felt sorry for him poor guy . But Billy you're a gem. Looking forward to reading the other books in the series. Now I'm gonna read Jacob and Leila's book

Interesting story!

FMC took a train to the city. Despite hating crowding places, she had to run away from s.th or s.o.
Her only suitcase was stolen in the train. She reached the city searching for a police station and BAM a car hit her.

She woke up with severe case of amnesia. We don't know her name or her story. Her social worker managed to get her to live with her brother the MMC and the plot goes on from there.

This book ticks the square of a novel set in Oceania (Australia: Sydney)

First read of this author and I'm not sure she is for me.

The heroine was so damaged and had been so badly manipulated by another guy that she couldn't seem to assert herself or be positive about anything, to the point that she actively, constantly rejected all help. Basically, she was borderline suicidal, and it was pretty disturbing.

The hero was a good guy, and I loved the multi-cultural aspect of the book (I live in Melbourne and we are VERY multi-multi here) but I had this constant off feeling while reading it. it didn't really give me any joy, or any relief from the depressing narrative. There was also a dirty quality to some of the sexual encounters described, which is fine if it's sexy-dirty, but it was just degrading-dirty. Hadn't the poor girl had enough hell in her life?

If you like these sorts of stories, then go for it.

I was lucky enough to be given an ARC of this fabulous book. Call Me Lucy is the first thing I have read by this author but it definitely won’t be the last.

Lucy’s story had me captivated from the very first page, I simply had to know more about the girl and what happened to her, my mind went through so many different scenarios as I read.

If you like you books with a bit of “on the edge of your seat” suspense and a large helping is sweetness then you will love Call Me Lucy

P.S... can’t wait for Lillian and Blake’s story

Congrats Rania on this compelling story. As soon as I opened it on my Kindle I was finding it hard to stop reading....housework is so over rated. 😎 I loved getting to know these characters. My heart broke for Lucy. To not know who she was or that no one even missed her, but to finally find her HEA with Billy was what I was cheering for.

A riveting read.

I was fascinated by finding out who Lucy was, a person shaped by her life and the people she knew, even when she didn't remember. Emotionally charged and thought provoking. Wonderful characters and lovely glimpses of family life.

Call me Lucy grabbed a hold of me from the very start and didn't let go the entire time! The intensity of the story starts from the jump, no exaggeration at all, seriously, at 2% in I was HOOKED! I loved Lucy's character for so many reasons, she is complex and I appreciated that. Sometimes she is fragile and broken, others she is strong and resilient. Then there is Billy. Now I'm a sucker for a good a*hole MC and he didn't disappoint. The story is told from both Lucy and Billy's POVs, which was great. That definitely helped me not hate Billy when he was being mean.

This story is a great Enemies to Lovers romance and I encourage you to read it! It is an emotionally intense read that is packed with suspense and intrigue. This is my first book by Battany and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.

4.5 stars

I really loved this novel, an Enemies to Lovers romance set around a cast of characters who are part of a linked series Stolen Hearts, with the next book Choosing Lillian coming out early March.

This novel, as the title suggests is about Lucy who has been in an accident and suffered some traumatic brain injury and has no idea who she is or where she comes from, but the saddest part is that no one has come forward to say she is theirs.

Lucy is lucky in one respect, she is assigned Lillian as her social worker and Lillian is completely about protecting Lucy after she herself has suffered a loss that we slowly uncover details about. Lillian sets Lucy up at her flat where her brother Billy is living and Billy is given the job as unwilling 'babysitter'.

This was a really moving story, Lucy's struggle to remember her identity, while at the same time being terrified of learning who she really is, was one that pulled at my heartstrings many times throughout the novel. The fact no one has come forward for her makes her feel that she must have no worth to anyone. Billy's behaviour towards her when she first comes to stay reiterates this feeling of having no self-worth.

I actually really liked Billy despite his behaviour to begin with, you could see he was struggling with his own demons and that deep down he cared a lot. He especially cared about his sister Lillian and I really enjoyed the dynamics of their relationship.

Lucy meets a very unlikeable character in Tyler when she is revisiting the scene of her accident. From the get-go, I knew there was something off about Tyler and as the story progresses I could see why I disliked him. Tyler is all about emotional and psychological abuse. He plays Lucy from the start and whenever these two characters met, I got a horrible sense of foreboding. Rania Battany has done a great job of portraying both the mindset of the abuser and the effects this can have on the person being abused.

Lillian is working with a police officer Blake, the chemistry between these two is palpable and there is hope something might be stirring ready for the next book in the series.

There are a few other characters we meet who will be part of the series, Lillian and Billy's mum Helen who comes across as a loving mother, loud and sure that food is the answer to any problem, characteristics that are often part of a Lebanese family. We also meet Gabby, their cousin who also is loud, outgoing and thinks food, especially pastries can cure anything. And we briefly catch up with Leila and Jacob who have their own novella Letters to Leila, which is set slightly before Call Me Lucy. I didn't like Leila in the novella and her brief catch up in this novel didn't change my mind about her, though I am glad Leila and Jacob are still together.

I really enjoyed Lucy and Billy's growing friendship and relationship. I loved the way they both took tiny steps towards trusting each other, sometimes leading to more steps backward, but ultimately leading towards something real and strong that is worth pursuing. Billy really was just what Lucy needed in order to heal from her past and from her accident. Lucy is a tough person, at the same time as being completely vulnerable and I really loved her character.

This was a great read full of emotions and the mystery of finding out who Lucy really was.

Thank you to the author for a copy of this novel in return for an honest review.

Billy was perfect for Lucy. He helped her find her voice and herself. Their intimacy was perfect for the story. I struggled to put this book down. Lucy is broken but strong. Billy is protective over those he cares about. Together their perfect.

A young woman is hit by a car and she loses her memory. She wakes in the hospital weeks later knowing nothing about herself. Without giving too much away, she ends up living with someone called Billy. Billy calls this woman Lucy. The tension between Lucy and Billy is intense. As the story unfolds, the plot grows, and so does the mystery surrounding Lucy's identity. I found myself not wanting to stop until I reached the end. Each chapter compels you to keep reading the next.

I was lucky enough to grab a pre released copy. This story leaves you guessing and engaged from the very beginning. The tension and chemistry between Billy and Lucy is intense and the suspense behind Lucy’s memory sucks you in until the very end. A highly recommended read. I look forward to the second book in the series.

I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to read and review, another book written by Rania Battany. My only gripe with this book, is that it was over too soon. I thoroughly enjoyed every page, it was intriguing, sexy, and emotive. The storyline kept the pages turning fast, couldnt wait to find out what happened next...

I wouldn't call this an enemies to lovers romance, although I suppose that is technically true. But this is a deeper story than just a romance. A really good story about family, belonging, and figuring out who you are.

I have a really weird rating system.

Btw, I started this book knowing nothing of the plot. My head was all over the place. Initially I thought it was an enemy-to-lover straight romance. But after awhile, I kinda get the gist that this could be a domestic thriller and all kind of mysteries kinda built up... and it ended like a vanilla contemporary romance.

I did laugh a lot though. The heroine has this fixation with other woman's boobs. The story about the cat, priceless... never thought it ended that way. Even the big villain didn't turn out so villainy. I kinda sympathize the poor fucker. All in all, good read.

I enjoyed this story.

This is my first time reading a book by this author and I really enjoyed it. The characters were really well thought out. Everything flowed well in is story. Lucy/Meg was so sad. The brain injury was one thing but feeling so lonely was another. Billy had an attraction to her that he was trying to fight so hard. He knew she was older than eighteen. Billy and Lillian were so close and cared for their mother. Tyler had some serious issues and he was using Lucy/Meg for his own good. To take advantage of her was mean.

What another great story Rania. I loved the mystery of Lucy trying to remember who she was and trying to figure out who Tyler was. I loved Billy he was such an angry but loveable character. And Lillian was such a great caring social worker who wanted to see things to the end without tragedy. Can’t wait to read the next book in this series. ❤️❤️❤️

Beautifully written. Two hurt people find each other. I would have liked a stronger black moment, rather than the hero telling the heroine to "get the fuck out of his house" instead of listening to the heroine when she is trying to speak to him.
