Ecaterina is a bat shifter and works as a bounty hunter. When one of the guys who she brought in escapes jail and wants her dead, her boss makes her take a leave of absence. She goes home but her family is driving her crazy because they want her to follow the family traditions and she's not.
Valerian fled a wedding that he knows would never work and even though he wants to find his true mate, he doesn't think there's any chance of that ever happening until he meets Ecaterina. She's been sent to find him and bring him back to his wedding but he has other plans.
Ecaterina's family are servants to the royal family and so Ecaterina was in the castle for the Prince's wedding and when he fled, she was asked to go find him and bring him back by his family.
The fact that the matchmaker, Gerri Wilder is in this book made it that much better for me because I love her. She really knows how to match a couple together and have things work out. Ecaterina's family had sent her to this matchmaker some time ago and she knew she wasn't ready to be matched with anyone so even though her family wanted her married off, Gerri didn't find a match for her...yet.
Now that Valerian had escaped marrying someone he didn't love, he was on his way to Gerri Wilder in the hopes of finding someone he could love. She tells him that he'll find his soul mate at some point and he goes about his business not knowing that Ecaterina is about to enter his life and make things more complicated.
When these two do meet, it's pretty funny. I didn't expect her to be able to get the drop on him as easy as she did. She's one of the best bounty hunters out there and it shows but even she was a little surprised it was so easy. I liked that these two seem to like each other right away. Valerian is lusting after her almost right away which I found funny. These two make a pact that she'll hold off his family for a week before bringing him back so he can figure out how to let his fiance know that he's not going to marry her. But right as they are getting along and getting to know each other better she gets a message from the guy who wants her dead. Things take a complete opposite direction at that point because Valerian feels protective of her and now wants to help her catch the escapee.
While he is hiding from his parents and helping Ecaterina find the bad guy, they find themselves in danger for a while but it only brings them closer so they can no longer deny their feelings for each other. The ending was great and so was this story. I think these two will be great together.

This was the first book I've read by this author and I loved it! Ecaterina is my favorite type of heroine, strong and sassy, and she's a bat shifter which is a first for me. Valerian is a Vampyr Prince who is being forced to give up his playboy ways and marry. The world the author created with bat shifters and vampyr royalty and the history behind it is so unique. Ecaterina rebelled against her upbringing and tradition and ran away from home to become a successful bounty hunter and has made a name for herself by always getting the job done. Valerian wants to be a better man, but has no idea where to start, just knows that his arranged marriage would be a disaster, so he flees on his wedding day. When hired to track down the runaway groom, Ecaterina has no idea where that adventure will lead her. Valerian can help but be attracted to the pint-sized spitfire who captures him, and his attraction to her leads to them making an unconventional bargain. But when one of the bad guys Ecaterina took down escapes prison with vengeance on his mind, their partnership takes a dangerous turn and makes them both realize that they can't live without each other. Characters you will love, romance that sizzles, and action that keeps the story interesting all combine for an amazing story that you won't be able to put down. I can't wait to read about the other Lazar sisters in future books!

What a good start to a new trilogy. This is Ecaterina and Valerian's story and it's quite the story. Ecaterina has broken from the norm of her family and moved to America and became a bounty hunter. When one of her old bounties escapes she's forced to go home. Valerian is the next online to be king and it's his wedding day. To bad he doesn't want to mate the woman his parents have chosen. He bails heading to the match maker Gerri Wilder. When he wakes up hand cuffed to his bed by a beautiful bar shifter he's shocked to say the least. As these two need out on the run they find they have more in common than they think. When crap hits the fan can these two find a way to break the chains that bind them? Can they have a happily ever after? Or will one crazy komodo shifter and their happily ever after before it even begins? Well go get you a copy and find out. I text this book it's really funny, sexy, and we'll written.

This story was so original and creative. Valerian and Ecaterina were amazing characters that just draw you in and you just want more. The irony of a bat shifter and a Vampyr intrigued me after reading the story I was shocked to find that something I thought was true about Vampyrs was not. Can't wait to see what comes next.

Ecaterina is a bounty hunter who is hired to bring the Prince back to Romania. Except he doesn't want to go back to take part in an arranged marriage. Nope, he's waiting for his mate. Or is he. Great story, I'm not sure if I've read anything by this author before or not, but she's being added to my list. I read this through the KU program.

A most enjoyable read lots of bite and sass. Similar yet different in so many ways the main characters dance around each other whilst acknowledging their attraction and their circumstances. Fast paced and lively.

Adorable
I got a huge kick out of Ecatrina being a bat shifter. It was kind of funny that the bat shifters were indentured servants of the vampyrs, too. I liked how Ecatrina and Valerian solved that problem and the story behind it. It was a fun read and I recommend.

Hated it. Well maybe not hate per se,it’s really NOT worth that much effort.

Ok,mild dislike,that I’m sure will quickly fade to indifference.
This not really a book I’ll remember long.
I’m very ok with that.
Neither the MC’s or the world in which they live is very well constructed,fleshed our or developed.
Both characters felt as deep as your average puddle. No galoshes needed here,that’s for sure.
The heroine has more bravado than sense,and has the emotional range or a teenager . She picks the lovely nickname of “chompers “ for her future lover and mate and made me cringe every time she called him that. Chompers if she was mad 😡,happy ,sad or glad. Even at the end when they are about to mate. It’s a cute,funny or even sexy nickname. It just makes the H sound like he’s wearing big over sized dentures.
Kinda like those “Pedigree” ads w/“doggy dentures”.
Thankfully I only just thought of that now. I really would have been cringing badly if I’d thought oh it back when I was reading . The H called her “Liliac” . That supposedly means “bat” in Romanian. Not sure why your lover basically you what you are would be sexy either but it’s a 1000% better than “chompers”,hands down.
Honestly,there isn’t much here . You’ve got an immature sometimes TSTL h ,with more bravado than sense,w/a “vampyr “ prince who is kinda like the Scarecrow from Oz.
He wants depth it doesn’t really have it and is hoping to find a mate who can give it to him. The h’s inner bat 🦇 keeps saying “mate” to her but oddly enough it the vamp . who claims they are mates out loud. She never does.
Would I recommend this ? Heck No! I got it because it was free. Now if your curious and it’s still free ,well that’s up to you. Even if I liked this more I wouldn’t continue because next sister gets “more” when it comes to “mates” but personally I don’t think it’s right when the woman has to share . She should not have to choose or share.
Off to delete and forget .

A communication breakdown
The start of a new beginning and this author’s debut into the PDA is a journey into an entirely new society with an amazing new version of shifter. I love the characters! The sassiness of the little bat, and the way her vampyr listens with his heart and is willing to leave it all behind for her make me want to swoon. The author kept the story moving with the danger these two face along the way to their HEA. I enjoyed this book from the first page to the last and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Enjoyable enough read with a small glimpse of a Gerri
Was going along great, right up until this tough bounty hunter spends the day in self pity instead of tracking or researching.
Ecaterina at least admits her stupidity about her behaviour but it took the shine off for me.
A couple of errors made it into the book but they didn’t spoil my reading pleasure.
Read through Kindle Unlimited.

A fun read! I love that my favorite matchmaker makes a small showing. Of course her matches always find each other. Fun read!
