This story had a lot of fun tropes within it: friends to more, second chance romance, fake marriage, and one of the characters was a famous sports figure.

I liked the vibe between the two main characters. It was clear that they had a very close friendship in high school, even though it was started out as a tutoring relationship. Although unlikely to happen in real life, the fake marriage they found themselves in led to plenty of fun and sweet moments between Chase and Nichole. It was enjoyable to watch as their fake relationship turned to more.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Nicole and Chase have an interesting and fun past. One where they got to know and trust each other pretty good. So Nichole had no problem asking Chase for the help she needed. And Chase was caught off guard at what his friend ask of him.

Chase and Nicole are wonderful characters. I love the way their lives intertwine and I really loved following their journey of their fake marriage. Did this really help each of them at where their careers are at now? And they are both wonderful together but they are also both strong individual people, which brought several smiles as I read their daily lives. And Sweet Wesley, can I say he is just adorable and his personality adds much to the story. Each character develops well throughout the story, and this is enough info on them. There is a lot going on in this story, twists and turns weaved throughout that make the story well worth your read.

I have read a number of Cari Lynn Webb’s books and have enjoyed them all, and this one is no different. I love reading the sweet Heartwarming romances from Harlequin, because this is their clean reads line of books, for the most part.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Nichole and Chase…this is what I think of when I read “two best friends”. Don’t get me wrong – they are like fire and water with their takes on life; but they are such good people both inside and out that their personalities have meshed since they were young and became friends.

These two have heartbreakingly sad stories to tell, you’ll have to read the book as I won’t retell it, but their circumstances are real and true. It made me love them both from the start. Where Nichole is list-driven and focused on following a planned day/life, Chase is far more easy-going. And there is nothing he likes better than teasing Nichole and making her **OMG!** deviate from her list. They really are great friends, and eventually more.

The kids. Adorable! Let’s just say Nichole and Chase (who is just as bad as the kids sometmes) can’t mention the word ‘c-u-p-c-a-k-e’ in front of them. Both Nichole and Chase are such wonderful parents that it will make you wish you had them around when you were growing up.

It’s true that their families and friends see what they themselves can’t (a forest/tree thing) but I loved their story and how they worked together to get thru some kah-razee times. Oh yeah. There’s also an ex I loved to not like – at all – and that’s all I’m going to say. Loved this story and the series, although this is definitely a standalone.

Her Surprise Engagement is a fun and super cute read that kept me entertained throughout the entire novel. Nichole Moore and Chase Jacobs are quite a pair, she is a single mother trying to sell her app , he is a fading football star, they are old friends and aren't friends supposed to help peach other out? Why, yes they are but a fake marriage is something I would expect from a friend. Nicole just kind of blurted thins out which is how their "marriage" came to be. Their story is at times amusing, at times sweet and at other times it was heartwarming as they continue the charade.

Nichole has an incredibly sweet son named Wesley who I absolutely adored, he was one of my favorites in the book. Wesley is an all around great kid, kind loving and completely unspoiled and when he helped rescue kittens he held a place in my heart. All of the characters are likeable and fun to get to know which is another reason why I really enjoyed spending time with them.

Overall, I thought this charming and sweet read that moved at a great pace. I got to know the characters and felt like I was part of everything that was going on in their lives. This is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. If any reader is looking for a truly heartwarming novel than I recommend this one. I received a complementary copy of this book for this blog tour. All opinions are my own.

I received an advance copy of this book from the author in ebook format in exchange for review.

Her Surprise Engagement by Cari Lynn Webb is a a fun friends-to-lovers fake marriage romance. It follows Chase, a football star, and Nichole, a single mom with an app she is looking to fund. A fake marriage is mutually beneficial, as he can help her settle a deal with potential buyers and she can help his fading career.

This was a very sweet romance. I enjoyed how well Chase, Nichole, and Wesley fit together as a family.

I received a free ARC eBook from the author and opinions in this review are my own.

Sometimes our mouths speak out of turn. This is what happened in this story and the consequences of these actions unfolds. It's a story of courage and determination. It is learning to accept what life has in store for you and in this journey the characters grow and change. I enjoyed the story and will look for more from this author in the future.

I was drawn into this story from the get-go because it was both fun and heartwarming. A football player who is staring down the end of his career and the only woman who knows his true self reconnect years after high school only to become tabloid headlines after they lie about being married.

Nicole is a strong single mother but a bit naïve when it comes to doing business. Enter Chase who comes to her rescue but the agreement they come to after that first reconnection takes on a life of its own.

There’s a definite attraction between these two but neither wants to admit it goes any deeper than that. Add in Nicole’s son Wesley, and a softer side of Chase is exposed. Add in both Nicole’s and Chase’s families and Cari Lynn Webb has delivered a sweet, sometimes humorous, and all-around enjoyable story.

I was fortunate to receive an advanced copy of Her Surprise Engagement by Cari Lynn Webb. I love a good love story, and this one did not disappoint. I connected with the characters. Their interaction with each other just seemed real. The exchanges between all the girlfriends felt authentic. I related so much to Wesley. I loved seeing how Chase grew and developed throughout the story. Cari Lynn Webb is a new author to me, but I'm keeping her on my radar and hope to read more by her in the future.

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of Her Surprise Engagement. I am so thankful that I did. This is a wonderful love story. It is heartbreaking and then heartwarming. Right from the start, Chase had me laughing. He is instantly loveable. Nichole is more reserved, but you can feel how strong she is even though she does not know it yet. All the characters in this book are well developed. You feel like you are part of their lives. Nichole tutored Chase in high school and college until he went to play pro football. Now they need each other’s help to finalize contracts and secure their futures. They agree to be fake married until the contracts are signed. Then the whole world finds out that they are “married”, and everything spins out of control. Will they get their contracts signed? Will the fake marriage be revealed? Will they realize that they really love each other and belong together or is there too much baggage between them? I highly recommend this book. I have not read anything by Cari Lynn Webb before, but I cannot wait to read more of her books.

Oh my goodness. I immediately sighed internally after reading the last few pages of this book and I think my eyes literally turned into hearts. These two are beyond words! This book was such a sweet, adorable mix of fake relationship and friends to lovers, which are two of my favorite romance tropes. It was a match made in heaven. The chemistry between Chase and Nichole was off the charts and crazy cute!

Chase and Nichole were friends in high school, but they had kept it on the down low. Fast forward several years and Chase is now a professional football player. Nichole is trying to launch her own app and ends up calling on Chase to give her some confidence in a business meeting with potential investors. In a quick blurt of words from Nichole, they find themselves faking a marriage. The books has ups and downs as they navigate tricky situations such as dealing with the media and family, all the while trying to fight their inevitable feelings.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I am leaving an honest and voluntary review.

I have enjoyed every book I’ve read in Cari Lynn Webb’s “City By The Bay Stories” series, and it’s always fun to revisit some of the same characters from book to book. Whether it’s time for another family member or a friend of a past hero/heroine to shine in each new book, we get the best of both worlds as readers – the confirmation that beloved characters do still exist after their own stories are read and the enjoyment of watching two more people fall in love. Best of all, the books in this series can each be read as standalones, so don’t fret if this is the first one you’ve found.

Nichole is a single mom with an adorable son, and she’s trying to find investors in the app she’s created. Chase is a football star fighting to stay relevant to his team, despite a serious injury (that he’s ignoring) and a less than squeaky clean reputation. High school friends who’ve briefly reconnected, Nichole ropes Chase into being morale support at a meeting with executives who are interested in her app. This turns into an innocent ruse as newlyweds … which quickly spirals into what you might expect – that tangled web we weave when we deceive, however innocent our intentions.

With hearts of family members now at stake, especially that of Nichole’s adorable son Wesley (who steals the show on more than one occasion), Chase & Nichole are walking a shaky tightrope. This, of course, amps up the sparks that rush to life after an impromptu kiss … and then another … and yeah, you’ll be fanning for sure. I appreciated how a rather implausible situation still seemed pretty believable the way Webb framed it, and I really liked the character growth we see in both protagonists throughout the story. The romantic tension was nicely developed, and the twists that the author weaves in along the way serve to enhance the plot well.

Bottom Line: It’s always a treat to visit with the characters from Webb’s “City by the Bay Stories” series, and Her Surprise Engagement is no exception. This friends-to-more / fake marriage story has some super swoony kisses, sweet moments & great characters. The author draws you into the story right away & keeps your attention until the end – and you’ll be rooting for Chase & Nicole’s fake relationship to become real. A cute weekend read you’ll enjoy!

I received an early copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Nichole didn’t think - that’s all you can say about the whole situation. She just reacted - said the first thing that came to mind - that Chase was her husband. I don’t know how people believed her story - it was rather abrupt and of course she didn’t think about the living arrangements.

It was a light hearted, fun read- but not a plot that you want to analyze - just enjoy it.

Her Surprise Engagement was another great read by Cari Lynn Webb. I have read and enjoyed her books in the past and this one is probably among one of my favorites by her. I loved the chemistry between Nichole and Chase. It was delightful to get to know them. I thought their story was fun, sweet, and entertaining. I could not put the book down until I had it all read in one sitting. It is so so good.
I am giving Her Surprise Engagement a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend this for readers who enjoy sports romance.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Thank you in advance to the author, Cari Lynn Webb; along with Prism Book Tours for providing a complimentary review copy. A positive review was not required or requested and all words are my own.

This is the second “City by the Bay Stories” book I’ve read by Webb. The first one was “In Love by Christmas”.

Even though these are technically a series, they are EASILY standalone titles. I was able to open this one and get through it without wondering who was who – what the connections were. With some “series”, the reader – at least I do – wonders about every one’s connection. With these books? I don’t usually have to worry. If there’s one I’ve missed, I know it won’t be a big deal. Though, honestly, I do prefer to have the entire collection.

Anyway …

The great thing about Harlequin’s Heartwarming line, besides being larger print? They’re absolutely clean reads. No foul language or descriptive sex scenes. While these are categorized as “hope and inspiration”, they do not have Christian/or Faith themes in them. For those who are looking for a cleaner romance read without the Christian/faith tones – these definitely suit the need. They really are wholesome stories with a lot of goodness in them.

This latest offering in the “series” involves a tricky little plot. My take? Fake marriages are my least favorite plot device. Right off there is an intent to deceive to get something, and it REALLY kills the romance.

Now, with that said …

Webb really tries to make this work with her candid and realistic writing style – and for the most part, she does. So, how can we not want to grab this book and cheer for a happily ever after for this sweet, Hallmark-like couple on the front? Especially with this couple knowing each other since high school? I really wanted to see how this was going to play out, and for the most part I liked it. I like where Webb took the story and it was easy to see Chase and Nichole as a couple.

Getting to the characters …

One that makes an appearance from “In Love by Christmas” is Josie. Her boyfriend Theo doesn’t make an appearance until the end of the book. There is no information regarding their relationship or how it is progressing since that novel. As far as the others? I haven’t read the other books in the series to know how they connect.

While seemingly on the outside, Chase looks like a wild guy, he certainly is the hero of the story for me. His antics really didn’t seem so bad at all, and add in a kitten rescue … this guy could be perfect. Well, except for the mind always on football deal.

It was interesting how much he did care for Nichole, and the history they had played a great deal into the fake marriage deal. I loved how Chase wanted to step right up and be all the things he was pretending to be, especially a father for Wesley. Wesley’s father was briefly mentioned and that was a bit of a sad tale in this otherwise happy story.

I didn’t like Nichole’s parents at all and thought what happened to her was pretty sad. They don’t even make an appearance at the end, so I have to say that Nichole was honestly better off without them. I was a bit peeved with Nichole who started the ruse then seemed to get upset when Chase went with it. I would’ve liked to have seen her be a bit more appreciative of what Chase was doing since the scam marriage was her idea, in addition to how much he’d been there for her in high school.

While I wasn’t sure what to make of Chase’s “Nonna”, I dearly loved Nichole’s grandparents more. I have a special place for “Grandma Marie”. My name Marie is from my grandmother’s middle name. Incidentally, it is Nichole’s middle name as well.

Webb realistically writes about Chase’s injury and age factor in football. One really doesn’t consider their age until something happens. Today’s 30+ isn’t as old as it was in say the 1970’s, yet that is what Chase is facing – old age and an injury that will take him out of the only life he’s known. I have to honestly say this is a jarring fact that some of us don’t realize.

Watching Chase and Nichole navigate the fake marriage is at times fun and other times, for me, heart-breaking. It was interesting to see if they were both going to get what they wanted from the fake marriage. It was also interesting to see that most of their friends went with the ruse, and some didn’t even bother to question them on the details.

I would’ve liked to have known more about Nichole’s app “IN A PINCH”. I’m not entirely tech savvy, but I would’ve liked to have seen more to what it was supposed to do. It would’ve also been nice to see it come to fruition.

I loved the message of seeing beyond appearances, as well as loving harder, and love is always enough in this sweet, feel-good read. Webb clearly knows how to write a story that touches on what we all want from life – whether it be a career or family, even a second chance.

There are a lot of football terms, but I am sure that fans of the author and the series will likely enjoy this book.

Nichole is a single mother who is a bright and talented woman who has created a computer program which should be a success. First she must find the financing in order to get things off the ground.

When there is a meeting with a team which may provide her financing, she needs emotional and moral support. She enlists an old friend from high school and college, Chase. He is a successful NFL quarterback. She tutored him through school because he has dyslexia and had difficulties reading and understanding. Between the two of them, he graduated from high school and qualified to go into the NFL.

All those years ago, they became best friends. They learned a great deal about one another and built a true friendship. When out of the blue, Nichole asks Chase to help her, he immediately agrees. He expects to attend the meeting as moral support. He is surprised when suddenly he becomes a husband.

Nichole has a son, Wesley. He was a very important part of this story. Wesley has watched his mother develop her app and takes great pride in her accomplishments. But, it is evident to Nichole that he needs a father figure to help him grow and become a man.

Chase has an injury which is bringing him to the realization that his football career may be nearing its end. He has no idea what he can do with his life if there is no football.

Each of the 3 main characters are wonderful people.

Nichole is a strong woman with an extended family filled with people who love her. She is serious and believes that she must never permit herself to make any spur of the moment decisions. Nor does she allow any errors in her choices.

Chase has a reputation for being a fun and games kind of guy. He is, but he is also devoted to his family, a hard worker and he has a soft heart for anyone in need. He has no idea that he is a truly terrific man.

Wesley is bright, funny and willing to throw himself into becoming a son to a new father.

This story is sweet and charming. The characters provide warmth and affection. Though this is a part of a series, it works beautifully as a stand alone read. Characters are completely introduced. The reader learns how each one fits into the plot. The plot moves at a good pace.

I enjoyed this sweet book. Ms Webb is a new to me author who who is a talented creator of people I liked a lot.

I received this book from the author. I am voluntarily writing this review and all opinions are completely my own.

Her Surprise Engagement was a feel good book from Harlequin Heartwarming. Their books don't always have a depth to them but I always know what to expect and they don't disappoint. This is Nichole and Chase's story. Friends from high school and college who have lost touch with each other throughout the years but have a strong history and helped each other when they most needed it. When they reconnect because Nichole needs a favor they both get more than they want, or do they? I liked that we got to know them and their history a little at a time. They just don't know what to do about their feelings, or do they?

I liked the chemistry between Chase and Nichole even if they thought they were just playing a part because they needed each other to get contracts important to them signed. He's a pro football player and she's developing an app that she hopes will go viral. They still have each other's back and were able to reclaim their friendship and attraction even though it's been a lot of years since they've seen each other. Their extended families along with her son, Wesley, were nice additions to the story and kept the momentum going. There were his teammates and football friends plus his family, her friends and their families that united them whenever they were together.

There is a nice flow to the story and some chaste kisses along the way but they are both getting in deeper than they planned until everything seems to blow up around them. Will they get their happily ever after? There are some twists and turns along with surprises along the way. Chase's nonna is a hoot and I love how she and Wesley connect. There are multiple story lines going on at the same time which are woven in and out. I got the closure I look for thanks to the epilogue that takes place three weeks after the story ends. It gave me a feel good feeling.

Ms. Webb is a new to me author. I look forward to reading more of her books.

Chase Jacobs’ football career is in jeopardy. He was injured in the Super Bowl but he has not told many people how seriously. He is in contract negotiations and he is sure that he can rehab his shoulder in time to play up to his team’s expectations. He also is a big risk taker off the field. His sister suggests that he needs a wife to settle him down. Nichole Moore is a single mom who writes software programs. She has created an app to help families stay organized. She has to pitch the app to some investors which will get her business off the ground but selling herself is not one of her strong suits, especially to strangers. Her two best friends suggest she needs a negotiator to go to the meeting with her, someone she can trust to have her back. The name that comes to Nichole’s mind is Chase Jacobs, a friend from high school who had needed her help to pass his classes. Chase agrees to meet her for dinner – right before her meeting. When the two businessmen interested in investing in “In A Pinch” arrive, Nichole introduces them to - her husband. The businessmen are greatly impressed that she is married to the great Chase Jacobs. Since it is such a “recent development” Nichole and Chase ask them to keep their secret. Of course the “secret” gets out pretty quickly and they have to do some damage control. It is a fun, clean story filled with football references. I am a huge football fan so I really enjoyed the use of all of the football terms. Cari Lynn sent me an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and will be looking for the first two books in the series. Although this is sixth in the series, it can be read as a stand alone.

Nichole tutored Chase through high school and college. He went on to be a star in the NFL. Nichole is a single mom working hard to launch an app that she hopes will solve all her financial issues. Right now, they both need each other again. Chase's crazy antics off the field on top of his most recent injury make him fearful that his contract won't be renewed for the next season. Nichole feels that if she has a fiancé or husband, it will help her chances of getting much needed financing for her app. They decide that a fake engagement and marriage will benefit them both. They can always get "divorced" after their goals are met.
Of course, both their families plus Chase's agent and team are more than shocked by this sudden development. Nichole's son Wesley is truly happy that he now has a dad. Will this situation lead to true happiness or heartbreak on many levels?
HER SURPRISE ENGAGEMENT by Cari Lynn Webb is part of the Heartwarming series and that description really fits. The author has not only written a sweet romance, but emphasized the huge importance of family. Chase has had a wild reputation of doing crazy things, but under it all he has a tender heart. Nichole has dealt with the choice that changed her life forever and raised a wonderful son. The author fleshes out both main characters perfectly.
Cari Lynn Webb is a new to me author. She has provided an uplifting story of love during a challenging crisis. Romance has always been my go-to genre in difficult times. I will look to this talented author's backlist and future books for much needed HEA.

I received an e-ARC of this book, thanks Cari! This is a sweet, clean romance with 3 or 4 kisses in the whole book.
Nichole is a single mother with an 11 yo son. Chase is the bad boy footballer with a bad shoulder. Nichole has an app she needs funding for and Chase needs to clean up his reputation. There's a meeting with investors and Nichole asks Chase to go. (not sure why she decides to call him out of the blue after years of no contact or why he agrees, but there it is) One thing leads to another and they're fake married. Everyone believes this for some reason even though their stories don't match.

I felt there was a back story we were missing that could have been delved into in 368 pages. There was cooking, but no heat, kittens that popped up with no mother (they were going back to check that but didn't) and a few other things that made me stop and ... what...?

I liked the characters but needed a little more.

Cari Lynn Webb is a new author to me. The story was well written and there were NO TYPOS that I noticed and believe me, that's a bonus right there! I like a little more heat in my stories but that's just me and no reflection on the author. If you like clean romance, this is the book for you.

First let me say that I love Ms. Cari Lynn Webb’s books. I have read many. They all are heartwarming books. This one was both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
Single mother Nichole Moore is trying to make something of herself. She’s trying to get someone to back her endeavor with an app she’s created. When she calls upon an old time friend from high school he’s right there for her. To impress the men she’s meeting she goes a step further and tells
the men a little fib about her and Chase Jacobs. One thing lead to another and she soon feels more for him. Her son even likes him a lot. But Chase blows up after something about his health is revealed, and it’s all downhill from there.
The chemistry between them is there, but will love be enough to heal her heart? It’s been broken once before.

Chase has only known football. Nichole has always been there for him, and he will be there for her until it’s over. But he’s better on his own until her son calls him Dad.
He doesn’t know about that. Wait and see what happens. His career might be over. But who will remain?

Buy the book to see what happens.

This stand alone book in the City by the Bay series, is a touching clean romance .
Nicole Moore and Chase Jacobs have known each other since HS. He was the football star and she the brainy valedictorian. She was also his tutor and the one that kept his secrets.
Nowadays, Nicole is a single mom trying to get investors for her apps and Chase is a football star going through some tough times.
She asks Chase to help her during her deal and in a desperate move a fake marriage ensues.
Both Nicole and Chase have been hurt by love. Neither feeling that they are worthy of it. While he’s seemingly easygoing, she’s a by the book gal.
But feelings start to develop and the make believe starts to seem real.
Will they take a chance at love and family, or will fears and the past keep them from taking a leap of faith?
This was at times heartbreaking ,but also heartwarming. It was also a reminder that the experiences of our childhood and the past, will indeed affect our adulthood and our beliefs.
Another wonderful story by this author.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own

Throughout high school and college Nichole tutored dyslexic Chase helping him realize his dream of being drafted for a pro football team. In school nobody knew they were friends. They were both happy with that relationship and their own lives. Years later, Nichole, now a single mother with dreams of success selling a new app she has created and Chase who has recently suffered a serious shoulder injury that could be the end of his career, meet and enter into a spur of the moment agreement to pretend to be married to help polish Chase’s bad boy image and give Nichole someone to help with her negotiations to sell her app. They agree to walk away after Nichole signs the contract to sell her app and Chase gets a renewal on his football contract. With both of them suffering from abandonment issues from childhood, it seems like the perfect arrangement…no strings and they both get what they want. But will it work out that way, or will they discover the love they don’t know they want in this gentle romance. A perfect book for these troubled times we are living in.

Received an advance read copy from the Author.

Her Surprise Engagement is an easy read with little twists along the way. I enjoyed the way Cari picked up on the little things that others may not see or hear. The care that Nichole has for others, and her relationship of best friends. Life throws her curves along the way that she doesn't anticipate, breaking her heart, but urging her to move forward. She has a very important meeting that her friends suggest she take someone along with her, but they are both busy. She asks, never expecting anything to come of it, an old friend, who they were always there for each other - and he surprisingly is available, and the story goes from there. You witness a lot of hurt from the main characters as to their growing up years and what they do now, and how it all ties together - or should I say, impacts what they do and how they react. It was fun and enjoyable. In the reading, made you think about how what your adventures in life may tie back to your past. Enjoy!!

The title was slightly misleading: in my view it should have been "Surprise Marriage," but oh well. Nichole Moore is desperate to sell a unique app she has developed, knowing that doing so will mean she can continue to raise her 12 year old son with more security than she has now. But she is fearful of meeting a pair of executives who have expressed an interest in backing her venture. Her desperation forces her to ask for help from the one guy who owes her a favor--the pro football hero she tutored in high school and college, keeping his secret about why reading is so difficult for him.

Chase agrees, and goes along with her blurt about their recent wedding, knowing it will help rehab his bad rep when he's not on the gridiron. Oh, and there's that pesky shoulder surgery he's avoiding, too. But when he meets with those venture capitalists, he smells a rat. How can he tell Nichole without ruining her dream?

And how is he going to recover when their secret gets out and everyone knows they aren't really a couple? How this all works out is a meet cute in reverse.

I really enjoyed this book for 2 reasons. One reason is that it showed how things can snowball on you. The other is that love can grow from the most unusual circumstances. Nichols has always hidden behind her brains. While Chase has hidden behind football because he felt that was he was worth. The way Carol wrote this story anyone of us could have been one of the characters. Who has hidden behind something to feel safe before? I like the way Carol writes this story and then brings the story home. In the world we live in today we can get caught up on things. As Nichole and Chase start to fall in love they realize things about themselves because of the other person. I like the way Carol writes this story for we get to see so many things grow in this story. One is the friendship between these two the other thing is the love that sort of sparked without the other realizing it. Its a great story of second chance i away for they knew each other as teens then again as adults. Its definitely worth reading. Im curious to see who is next in this series for its been fun to read. Her Surprise Engagement by Cari Lynn Webb is seemingly a light read for a rainy afternoon but once you get down and dirty, you find that there is much to discover! It is a great second chances story that is also friends to more story and adding a fake marriage into the mix with a famous sports figure and you feel that the book ticks all the right boxes!
We get Chase and Nichole, they used to be friends in high school and now Chase has come to the point in his career that his body is starting to tell him that the end of his career is neigh and Nichole feels that she needs to follow her eternal lists in order to have her life under control and to be a mother her son Wesley needs … they both have stories in their past that will pull at your heart strings but do not get me wrong, it is not just struggle and tears, there is also loads of banter and laughter and this incredible chemistry that they finally acknowledge …
It is a sweet read and once you get to the end you will sigh and hope that maybe you will get your chance one day …

This is a great easy read. I've already written a review, but somehow I can't find it. So, I'm trying again.

I received an e-book ARC copy from Cari Lynn Webb. [Thank you.]

While I think there are a few issues with the book, they are few. It is a great way to spend a day or two enjoying a good, clean, story. The characters are relatable and could be your neighbors.

I think the title is a bit misleading, it's more like "Her Surprise Marriage" because the engagement doesn't come until the end.

There were a few inconsistencies that caught my attention: If Chase is playing in the NFL how is Sunday family dinner day? In one place, Chase is on the back porch and Nichole slams the door as she goes down the stairs . . . ? Kittens are found on a cold, snowy day; the mom is going to be looked for the following day, yet it is never mentioned again.

I would read the other books with these characters and by this author.

This was my first time reading a book by this author and I quite enjoyed it. The story is about a single mom who invented a great app and a famous football jock who’s afraid of getting surgery and having life pass him by. For both to achieve their career goal, they devise a plan to be “fictitiously” married.
I enjoyed the humor; especially between the son and his mom and “dad”- it’s like watching “kids say the darndest things”. There are a lot of interesting family characters as filler. The only downside was repetition about their pretend marriage and football.
This is a soft, humorous, enjoyable, light quick read that will leave you feeling good at the end of the story. I normally complete reading a book of this size within 1 to 2 sittings but was taking care of my 84-year-old mom who recently injured herself.
I received a copy of this book free for an honest review

Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read and review this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Her Surprise Engagement, by Cari Lynn Webb, is available at booksellers on 7-1-2020. Engagement is book 6 in the City By The Bay Stories but is intended as a stand-alone. The couple, Chase & Nichole, are super cute & easy to like. He was the high school jock & she the brainy girl who tutored him. Chase has a contract renewal coming up and Nichole needs to find a financial backer. Both are a bit desperate and it's interesting how they come up with a plan to help each other out. It's a grown up attraction from the start this time, a few hot kisses and lots of hand holding, I like that. Their respective families are nice people and there's a load of them. Their HEA made my heart pitter-patter.

Her Surprise Engagement is a cute, fun - friends to lovers, fake marriage, high school friends story. Nichole was always the serious, studious girl and Chase was the jock, playboy type and yet they became the best of friends when Nichole helped tutor Chase in high school and college until he gets drafted to play pro football. Now years later, Nichole is a single mom trying to get backing for an app she develops and Chase is trying to repair his reputation and hide a shoulder injury while renegotiating his contract. They agree to help each other with a fake marriage until both are under contract but when family and emotions get involved, things change. Now they must overcome their insecurities and fears to create a happily ever after. This is a fun, sweet story filled with humor, love and a few tears. A great read.

I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher, but all thoughts and feelings are my own.
